It was 2015, and Louis and I were on the tour bus waiting for the rest of the boys to do whatever they were doing before we went home.
We were quiet, not saying a word to each other, until suddenly, he broke the silence.
"Do you ever feel like you don’t quite fit in?"
I looked over at him and raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
"You know, with the other lads. I mean, we’re all in One Direction together, but sometimes I feel like we’re all on different levels."
I snorted.
"You mean because Niall gets all the attention for being ‘easy-going’?"
"Yeah… something like that."
He sighed and rubbed his temples.
"I just wish sometimes we could have a normal life without everyone knowing who we are. I wish we could go to the store and not have everyone fawn all over us.
I wish we could go out on a date without everyone watching and speculating.
I wish we could just be normal."
I felt a pang in my chest as I looked over at him.
He was my best friend in the band, but I never knew he felt this way.
I reached out and took his hand, squeezing it gently.
"I know exactly what you mean," I said softly.
"Sometimes I feel like I’m just an outsider looking in.

I shift closer to Louis on the worn leather seat, our hands still intertwined.
The bus's engine hums beneath us, creating a cocoon of privacy.
My heart pounds as I watch his expression change from confusion to understanding.
He turns to face me fully, his blue eyes searching mine.
The silence stretches between us, heavy with possibility.
Outside, distant voices of crew members echo across the parking lot.
Louis leans in slightly, hesitating.
My free hand trembles as I reach up to touch his cheek.
The familiar scent of his cologne fills my lungs.
In that moment, we found a quiet truth between us that words could never capture.

Louis leans into my touch, his eyes never leaving mine.
The bus feels impossibly still, as if time itself has paused.
His fingers intertwine with mine more firmly.
My heart races as he whispers, "Maybe we could run away for a while, just the two of us."
I glance out the window, where the night sky is clearing after the earlier rain.

Stars begin to peek through the gaps in the clouds.
The crew's voices fade as they move toward the venue's back entrance.
Louis stands, still holding my hand, and nods toward the bus door.
I study his face, searching for any sign of hesitation.
His expression is hopeful, determined.
The leather seat creaks as I shift closer to the edge.
My pulse races at the wildness of his suggestion.
Outside, the venue's security lights dim, signaling the end of another show night.
Footsteps and distant chatter fade into the distance.
My throat tightens as I imagine actually doing this—leaving everything behind.
Louis's hand remains warm in mine, his thumb tracing gentle circles on my skin.
"Are you serious about this, Louis?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
He nods, a small smile playing on his lips.
Kingdom
"More serious than I've ever been about anything."
