一个高中男生的生活发生了变化,一颗红色翡翠赋予了他心灵感应的能力。
Kai
He is a high school student in modernday Japan. He is curious, skeptical, and introspective. Kai's life changed when he discovered a mysterious stone called a "crimson jade" that granted him the power of telepathy. He struggled to understand its abilities and implications, including reading people's thoughts and being overwhelmed by the constant noise. Despite initial confusion and attempts to keep the power secret, Kai grappled with the responsibility of his newfound ability and its impact on his relationships.
Mei
She is Kai's classmate and has a significant impact on his life. She is perceptive, kind, and mysterious. Mei first notices something unusual about Kai when she senses his thoughts during an incident in the school hallway. Her encounter with him sparks curiosity in Kai regarding her abilities and past. Although her true identity remains unclear, Mei's interactions with Kai suggest a profound connection that goes beyond typical friendships, leaving both intrigued but uncertain about each other's true nature.
Tsubasa
He is Kai's best friend and a fellow high school student. He is supportive, carefree, and loyal. Tsubasa was one of the first people to experience Kai's powers when he accidentally knocked over a stone, activating its abilities in Tsubasa. He was initially confused but quickly adapted to the new reality of having a magical power. The two friends shared many adventures and laughed together about their bizarre experiences, demonstrating their deep bond and ability to support each other through unexpected challenges.
It was the first time I'd heard a voice in my head.
I was shocked, not knowing what to do.
I looked around, wondering if someone was playing a prank on me.
But everyone in the classroom was focused on the lesson being taught by our teacher.
The voice was speaking to me, but I had no idea who it was or how it was getting into my head.
I tried to ignore it, focusing on the lesson instead.
But the voice continued to speak, calling out to me.
"Hello? Can you hear me?"
It seemed so real, and I found myself responding, even though I wasn't sure who I was talking to.
"Yes," I said softly, not wanting to draw attention to myself.
"Who are you?"
"I am the crimson jade," the voice replied.
A crimson jade was a stone, not a person.
I thought about it and remembered finding one last week while walking home from school.
It had been buried under some leaves, and when I picked it up, I felt a strange sensation in my hand.
I didn't think much of it and put it in my pocket.
Now, I pulled it out and looked at it, wondering if it had something to do with the voice in my head.
"Hello," I said again, looking at the stone.
"What can you do?"
"I can grant you powers," the voice replied.
"Powers? Like what?"
"Telepathy. You can read people's minds."
I grip the crimson jade tightly in my palm under my desk, its smooth surface warming against my skin.
My eyes are fixed on Mr. Tanaka as he writes equations on the blackboard.
At first, I hear nothing but the scratch of chalk and the occasional rustle of my classmates' pencils against their notebooks.
Then, gradually, like tuning a radio frequency, fragments of thoughts drift into my mind.
"...need to grade those papers tonight... running late for dinner with..."
It's Mr. Tanaka's inner voice, his thoughts spilling into my consciousness.
I lean forward in my seat, startled by this intimate access to his mind.
The chalk snaps in his hand.
He turns around, scanning the classroom with narrowed eyes as if he senses something amiss.
I concentrate harder, filtering out the background noise of the classroom to focus solely on Mr. Tanaka's thoughts.
Images flash through my mind—papers scattered across his desk at home, red marks covering their surfaces.
I catch glimpses of his grading criteria, far more lenient than he lets on in class.
When he thinks about tomorrow's test, I see the questions forming in his mind, complete with their answers.
My heart races at the realization of what this could mean.
He pauses mid-sentence during the lecture, rubbing his temples as if fighting off a headache.
I quickly release my mental grip, afraid he might sense something.
