I loved going to the library.
Even after spending six hours at school, I couldn’t wait to come straight here and spend hours reading books.
Every day after school I would hurry to the library, pick up some new books, and sit down to read in the reading room.
Most of the time, by the time I finished the book I was reading, it was time for the library to close, and I would have to take the book home with me so that I could continue reading.
I was an only child, and my parents both had to work late, so I often spent hours alone at home after school.
I had friends who wanted me to play with them, but I always said no because I wanted to come to the library, which was my favorite place.
I loved to read, and to me, the library was like a second home.
It was a magical place filled with endless adventures and mysteries waiting to be explored within the pages of the books that lined the shelves.
The librarian, Mrs.
Harris, was an old woman who had been working here for many years.
We knew each other well because I often spent hours at a time in the library, reading and sometimes just chatting about the books I’d read with Mrs.
So when I walked into the library that day and saw a strange face behind the counter, I was a little surprised.
What happened to Mrs.
Parker?” I asked Mrs.
Harris as I walked over to her.
She’s gone,” Mrs.
Harris replied briefly before turning back to some work she was doing on her computer.
“Who is she?”
“Her name is Emily Parker,” Mrs.
Harris said with a sigh.
“She’s new here.”
“Can I go in?”
I asked as I motioned towards the door of the reading room.
“Of course you can,” Mrs.
Harris replied with a smile as she handed me a new card with Emily’s name on it.
The reading room was empty when I walked in.
I sat down on a soft couch and picked up a book from the small table in front of me.
Emily sat behind the counter busy putting some books back on the shelves when I came into the library.
When she saw me sitting in the reading room, she put down the book in her hand and walked into the reading room with a warm smile on her face.
“Hey there, are you looking for something?
She asked as she sat beside me on the couch.
“No, thanks.” I smiled at her before opening my book and started reading it.
It was a story about lions and tigers, my two favorite animals.
I love watching shows about them on TV and had always wanted to see them in real life, but my parents never took me to the zoo when they went away so often for business trips so I couldn't go either .
The library was very quiet except for the sound of pages being turned over by other children who had come here after school just like me.
