"Hey, Mom! Hey, Dad! You won’t believe what happened today!"
I fly into the house, dropping my backpack on the floor as I rush into the kitchen where my parents are preparing dinner.
"What?"
They both turn to me with a questioning look on their faces.
"I found a treasure map!"
I announce excitedly.
I can’t stop smiling as I think about what I’ve discovered.
My sixth-grade year at Hillside Elementary School just got a whole lot more interesting.
"A treasure map? Where did you find it?"
My dad asks, his curiosity piqued.
I love my dad; he’s always up for an adventure, just like me.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t get to go on many these days since he’s not in sixth grade.
"In Mrs. Matthews’ class. It was on the floor, half under the desk. I think someone might have dropped it there and didn’t notice."
I frown slightly as I think about how it could have been missed.
It’s not every day you get to find a real treasure map!
"Did you show it to Mrs. Matthews?"
My mom asks.
I shake my head.
"No. It’s not signed, so I don’t know who drew it. But I showed it to David and Gina and my new friend Billy."
I grin at them mischievously.
"David brought his guitar to school and we had a rock concert in the hallways while we looked for the first clue."
I giggle.
