I lay down on my bed, too tired to even change out of my school uniform.
Mom had called the school to tell them I wouldn’t be coming in today, and I had spent the last few hours sleeping and recovering from my freak out the night before.
I knew I had been a little dramatic, but who wouldn’t be scared when they saw their mom like that?
I didn’t know what to make of it, but I trusted my mom and knew she would never hurt me.
Even though she had been acting weird lately, I was sure it was just a phase.
Maybe she was going through early menopause or something.
It made sense, considering how strange she had been acting.
She told me she was taking pills for her anxiety, and sometimes she would fall asleep in her chair during the day, just like grandma used to do.
Isolated with my Captor
I roll onto my side as Mom’s gentle knocking breaks the silence.
She pushes the door open slowly, her face tight with worry.
The afternoon light catches the silver chain around her neck - the one she always fidgets with when she’s nervous.
She sits on the edge of my bed, making the mattress dip.
Her hand reaches out to stroke my hair, but I notice it trembling slightly.
Isolated with my Captor
The familiar scent of her lavender hand cream fills the air as she leans closer.
Her other hand stays hidden behind her back, and I hear the faint clink of glass against metal.
"There's something I need to show you," she whispers, her voice barely audible.
My heart pounds as I push myself up against the headboard, watching her face for clues.
The afternoon sun streaming through my window catches the tremor in her hands.
She keeps smiling that strange, tight smile while continuing to stroke my hair with her free hand.
The glass clinking sound comes again as she shifts position.
Her movements seem calculated, like she's trying not to startle me.
Isolated with my Captor
I force myself to stay still, even though every instinct screams to pull away.
"Close your eyes, sweetie," she whispers, her voice cracking.
I close my eyes, bracing for the truth she’s about to reveal.
