Sometimes I like to run off and not tell anyone where I’m going.
It’s not that I want to get in trouble or have my parents yell at me.
I just want to be free.
So I grab my black Lululemon jacket and tie the ends together to make a skirt.
I don’t put anything else on underneath.
I don’t need to.
It’s twelve o’clock on a Saturday and I’m only going into the woods behind our large estate.
I don’t have to worry about getting caught or in trouble with other kids.
I can do whatever I want and run wherever I please.
"Where are you going, Mia?"
My mom yells from the kitchen as she sees me running through the grass.
I don’t stop or turn around.
I keep running straight into the woods.
The trees tower above me and block out most of the sunlight, throwing the forest floor in almost complete darkness.
"Wait!"
I hear my mom yell far behind me.
"I’m going to get your father!"
I keep running, not letting her words catch up with me or scare me back towards her.
The woods are beautiful during harvest season, especially when it’s almost fall and winter.
