Solstice Skye
"Hey Slate, how are you? It’s good to see you."
I hadn’t seen my boyfriend in almost two months; he was back at his family home in the countryside of Kentucky.
He was the son of one of the oldest whiskey makers in the state.
He had gone back to his childhood home after we had a huge fight about his not understanding what I was going through since serving in the war.
"Hello darling, it’s great to see you too. How are you doing?"
He asked as he kissed me on the cheek.
A little too hard for my liking, but I wasn’t going to say anything.
"I’m doing better, thanks for coming."
I said as I hugged him tightly.
"Of course, I would never miss seeing my girlfriend."
He said as he smiled and took my hand in his.
Slate Blackwell was a good man; he just didn’t get how I could have PTSD.
He figured that it was only people who saw combat, but little did he know that it was more than that.
It was being served, the noise, fireworks on holidays, or even just waking up in the morning with nightmares.
It was all part of the package.
