"I used to be with someone," I said.
"They call him Pickle. He was my boyfriend. Well, we weren’t really dating, but we were together."
"Lies. All you told him were lies," Lily Chen said.
She was right.
I used Pickle for my gain.
I told him whatever he wanted to hear so he could do what I wanted.
Whenever he got close to finding out my secrets, I would make a joke out of it or tell him that I was feeling uncomfortable.
He always believed me.
He never doubted me.
Until the day he found out the truth.
He was at my house when I got a phone call from my sugar daddy.
He called himself "my everything."
I thought he was going to ask me to break up with Pickle, but he didn’t.
Instead, he told me he found someone else and didn’t need me anymore.
He stopped calling me and stopped sending me money.
I didn’t know what to do.
I waited for his call every day, but I never got any until he called and told me he had someone else.
I thought I could still get him back if I did what I was good at: telling l#s and s###g d#k.
That didn’t work either.
After a few months, I didn’t hear from him anymore.
I tried calling him, but his number had been disconnected.
I never heard from or seen him again.
The Heartbreak Diaries
I sat at my desk with a pen in my hand and a piece of paper in front of me.
Lily Chen sat next to me, watching me.
I looked up at her and saw that she had a concerned expression on her face.
She looked like she was about to cry.
I turned back to the paper in front of me and began writing.
I wrote Pickle’s name at the top of the page and then started writing my apology letter.
I told him I was sorry for what I did to him and that I had changed.
I told him I didn’t want anything from him and that I just wanted to apologize.
I wrote about how I had been hurt by my s#####y and how I took it out on him.
I told him I knew that was no excuse for what I did, but it was the reason why.
I told him I hoped he could forgive me for what I did to him and that if he ever needed anything, he could come to me.
I signed the letter "Taco Bell."
The Heartbreak Diaries
After I finished writing the letter, I put it in an envelope and sealed it.
The Heartbreak Diaries
I got up from my desk and walked to the mailbox.
I held the envelope in my hand tightly.
I walked slowly, taking my time.
Each step I took felt heavy.
I was carrying a lot of weight on my shoulders.
When I got to the mailbox, I stopped and looked at it.
The letter felt heavy in my hand.
I took a deep breath and then slid it inside the m###x.
The sound of paper sliding against metal echoed through the air.
I turned around and saw Lily Chen standing there, watching me.
She had a concerned look on her face.
The Heartbreak Diaries
I turned back to the mailbox and saw that I had already dropped the letter inside.
I walked back to Lily’s house, and she followed me.
We didn’t say anything to each other.
The only sound was the crunch of gravel underneath our feet.
I thought about the letter I had just sent and wondered if Pickle would finally read it.
When we got to Lily’s front door, she opened it, and we stepped inside.
She made us some tea, and we sat down at her kitchen table.
I stared at the steam rising from my cup and thought about what I would do next.
The Heartbreak Diaries
I was sitting at Lily Chen’s kitchen table.
The steam from my tea was rising up and curling in the air.
Lily reached her hand across the table, and her fingers brushed against mine.
"You can always talk to me," she said softly.
I looked up at her and saw that she was watching me with a concerned expression.
I took a deep breath and started talking.
"Last night, I saw Pickle," I said slowly.
Lily didn’t say anything, just kept looking at me with her concerned expression.
I took another breath and continued.
"He turned his back on me."
Lily nodded, and I saw the concern in her eyes deepen.
"I tried talking to him, but he didn’t even look at me."
The Heartbreak Diaries
I paused, remembering the p#n in his eyes when he had finally looked at me.
"I could see in his eyes that he still h##s me."
But I knew that sending the letter was the first step toward making things right.
The Heartbreak Diaries
Lily leaned forward, her tea forgotten in front of her.
She whispered, "Maybe we can fix this together."
I nodded slowly, considering her words.
I looked into her eyes and saw the concern and understanding there.
"I really hope so," I said softly.
Lily squeezed my hand gently and said, "We’ll get through this together."
Then she got up and put our cups in the sink.
She turned back to me and said, "Let’s go to bed. We can talk about it more tomorrow."
I nodded and followed her to my room.
We brushed our teeth and then climbed into bed.
Lily snuggled close to me, and I felt comforted by her warmth.
I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, feeling a little lighter than before.
The Heartbreak Diaries
The next morning, Lily and I sat at her kitchen table again.
This time we were eating breakfast.
The sun was shining in through the window, casting a warm glow over everything.
Lily took a sip of her coffee and looked at me thoughtfully.
"I think I have an idea," she said quietly.
I looked up at her and asked, "What is it?"
Lily leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table.
She said, "Pickle has a special place he likes to visit when he’s feeling overwhelmed. It’s a park not too far from here."
I nodded, curious about what she would say next. Lily continued, "He likes to walk around the park because it helps him clear his mind. Maybe we should try going there today."
I nodded again, considering her suggestion.
"Let’s do it," I said finally.
Lily smiled and said, "Let’s go."
We got up from the table and headed out the door.
As we walked through the park, Lily pointed out different things that Pickle liked about it: a big tree with shade underneath its branches, a stream that flowed gently over smooth rocks, a patch of wildflowers that bloomed brightly in the sunlight.
We walked slowly, taking our time as we went around the park for the second time.
Then Lily stopped suddenly and said excitedly, "Look! There he is!"
She pointed to a figure sitting on a bench in the distance.
It was Pickle!
He had his head down and his arms wrapped tightly around his knees. We stood there watching him for a moment, trying to decide what to do next.
Lily whispered, "Maybe you should go talk to him first."
I hesitated, then nodded, saying, "Okay, but stay close in case I need you."
She gave me a reassuring smile and replied, "I'll be right here, just take it slow."
The Heartbreak Diaries
I took a deep breath and started walking toward the bench where Pickle sat.
My heart was pounding in my chest, but I kept going.
When I reached the bench, I sat down beside him.
Pickle didn't look up, just kept his arms wrapped tightly around his knees.
I cleared my throat softly and said, "Can we talk for a moment?"
He didn't say anything, just kept staring at the ground.
I waited for what felt like forever before he finally s###d and g###d up at me.
He looked at me with guarded eyes, but I could see the p#n there too.
I held his gaze and said, "Let me explain."
The Heartbreak Diaries
Pickle didn't say anything, just sat there silently.
I could feel the tension in the air between us, and I knew that this was my only chance to make things right.
I took a deep breath and said, "I know that I used you for your m##y, and I'm sorry."
Pickle still didn't say anything, but I could see the p#n in his eyes grow stronger.
I knew that I had to keep talking, even if it was hard.
I took another deep breath and continued, "I'm not going to lie, I liked having the money. But it wasn't just about the money. It was also about you."
Pickle looked away from me again, and I knew that he was trying to hide his f###s.
But I could still see the p#n in his eyes.
I reached out and touched his hand gently.
"Pickle," I said softly.
He looked up at me, and I could see the confusion in his eyes.
"I'm sorry," I said again.
The Heartbreak Diaries
"I should have told you about my s#####y."
Pickle shook his head slowly.
"It's okay," he said softly.
"I just wish you would have told me sooner."
I nodded, feeling a mix of emotions inside me.
I knew that I had made a mistake by not telling Pickle about my s#####y, but I didn't know how to explain it to him.
I took a deep breath and said, "I thought you would get mad."
Pickle looked at me with a confused expression.
"Why would I get mad?" he asked. "Because," I said softly, "it's a lot of money. And it's not something that most people would understand."
Pickle nodded slowly, considering what I had said.
Then he looked at me with a serious expression.
"I can understand why you didn't want to tell me," he said softly.
"But it's okay now. You've told me, and that's all that matters."
I felt a wave of relief wash over me as Pickle spoke those words.
It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
"Thank you," I said softly, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes.
Pickle nodded again, his face softening slightly.
Then he reached out and took my hand in his own gently.
"I'm glad you told me," Pickle said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
I squeezed his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin against mine.
Lily approached us slowly, her presence a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone in this.
The Heartbreak Diaries
She sat down beside me on the bench, her weight shifting slightly as she settled in.
I looked over at her and felt a sense of relief wash over me.
She was here, and everything would be okay.
Lily leaned forward, her eyes locked on Pickle.
Her voice was soft and gentle as she spoke, "I'm glad you're here too."
Pickle nodded, his face still a mix of emotions.
He looked up at Lily and said, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my s#####y sooner."
Lily smiled softly and replied, "It's okay. You told me now, and that's all that matters."
Then she reached out and took both of our hands in hers gently.
"I'm just glad we're talking again," Lily said, her voice filled with warmth.
We sat there for a moment, the only sound the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Then Lily stood up and said, "Let's go for a walk."
The Heartbreak Diaries
Pickle nodded slowly, his face still a mix of emotions.
I got up too, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
As we walked through the park, I could feel the tension easing between us.
Pickle held my hand tightly in his own, and I knew that he was trying to make amends.
Lily walked beside us, her presence a quiet support. We walked for a while longer before finally stopping at a small clearing surrounded by tall trees.
Lily looked at us both and said softly, "I think this is where we should stop for now."
Pickle nodded slowly, his face still a mix of emotions.
I nodded too, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
We sat down on a nearby bench, the silence between us growing thicker with each passing moment.
Then Lily stood up and said softly, "I'll be right back."
She walked off slowly into the trees, leaving Pickle and me alone once again.
As she disappeared from view, I turned to Pickle and asked softly, "Are you okay?"
Pickle looked at me with guarded eyes but nodded slowly.
"I'm fine," he said quietly.
Then he reached out and took my hand in his own gently.
I squeezed his hand back tightly, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Lily returned after what felt like forever with two cups in her hands.
She handed one to Pickle and the other to me before sitting down beside us on the bench once again.
