Eugene Carter

male. He is an elderly man who has lived a long life but feels unfulfilled. He is introspective,determined,and nostalgic. At eighty years old,he reflects on his life and realizes he never achieved his dreams of becoming a writer,traveling the world,or finding true love. Despite his age,he decides to pursue these dreams with renewed passion and vigor.

Lily Carter

female. She is Eugene's granddaughter who helps him navigate modern technology and encourages him to pursue his dreams. She is kindhearted,patient,and resourceful. Lily assists Eugene in setting up social media accounts and helps him understand the digital world.

Maeve Carter

female. She is Eugene's supportive wife who passed away several years ago. She is loving,caring,and encouraging. Maeve was the love of Eugene's life and supported him through his struggles. Her death left Eugene heartbroken but inspired him to pursue his dreams in her memory.

我八十岁了，却感觉像是刚出生的婴儿，刚从母亲的怀抱中走出。
我周围的一切都显得陌生；自从我上次睁开眼睛以来，一切都发生了变化。
机器的嘟嘟声，持续不断的检查和捣鼓，周围人们的声音交织在一起。
我试着开口，但声音却出奇地消失了，干涩的喉咙紧缩着，连一点声音都无法发出。
一只温暖的手握住了我的手，轻柔而安慰的触感让我睁开了眼睛，映入眼帘的是一张既熟悉又陌生的面孔。
“费格森？”我低声问，声音如同粗糙木头上的砂纸。
脸上露出了微笑，泪水涌上他的眼眶，顺着脸颊滑落。
“爷爷，”他说，声音哽咽，满是感情。
“你感觉怎么样？”
我忍不住想笑，面对这个问题。
我八十岁了，还昏迷不醒；他觉得我会有什么感觉呢？
但我并没有这么说。
相反，我向内心深处探寻，意识到他并不是在关心我的身体健康，而是在询问我的心理状态。
我快要放弃了；我已经放弃了希望。
“我结束了，”我低声说道，声音几乎听不见。
“什么？” “我结束了。”
“你什么意思？”
我闭上眼睛，深吸一口气，聚集起力量，准备再次开口。
“我不再等待。我不再希望。我不再做梦。”
