I never thought that I would be able to serve and help the team win a match.
When I first joined Karasuno High School, I was looked down upon as if I were weak.
But after putting in all that effort, I was finally able to make effective serves.
That was huge for me.
I thought that as long as I had my serve, Karasuno would never be eliminated from a match.
But that was wrong.
I was named backup captain, but then I was demoted.
It wasn't because I did anything bad.
It was simply because Tsurugano Koshi, the real captain, came back from his suspension.
He was the one who taught me how to serve properly, and at first, he was amazing.
His serves were so sharp and mean that no one could even get close to them.
But after he became captain, he stopped being able to make those sharp, mean serves.
He couldn't even get the ball over the net anymore.
It was as if being captain had taken away his ability to serve.
If Tsurugano Koshi couldn't make those sharp, mean serves, then Karasuno couldn't win against any team that had a strong ace.

Standing at the service line, I grip the volleyball tightly between my hands.
The texture of the leather is familiar against my palms, the weight of it substantial enough to give me a sense of control.
Glancing up at the scoreboard, I see that we're down by two points: 24-22 in Toakake's favor.
The tension in the air is palpable as I look across the net at Enku Shoyo, his towering figure exuding an aura of intimidation.
Even from this distance, I can make out the sharp edges of his teeth, a stark contrast to his otherwise stoic expression.
The whistle of the referee pierces the silence, signaling me to begin my serve.
Taking three deliberate steps back from the line, I follow the routine that Tsurugano had once taught me.
I toss the ball upward, feeling it rise and fall in a perfect arc before catching it again.
My muscles tense with anticipation as I pull my arm back, drawing upon countless hours of practice and determination.
With a deep breath, I launch the ball into the air, determined to reclaim our victory.
