I remember the day I found out I had autism vividly.
I was 18, in my first year of college, and the psychiatrist my parents had scheduled an appointment with was an hour outside of the city.
The reason for that was because he was one of the top psychiatrists in the area and my parents only wanted the best for me.
If not the best, at least they wanted to give me the best chance they could.
When I wasn’t with them on one of their missions, they had left me in the care of nannies and housekeepers.
They never wanted me to feel like I was left behind or unloved.
So, they made sure that at least one of them was home with me as often as possible.
The other parent would be out on a mission, but they would switch off every couple of months.
They did this until I was 18 and went off to college.
It was a good system and it worked well for all of them.
My parents got to do their jobs, and I had someone I loved and knew with me constantly.
It also gave my parents peace of mind, knowing that I wasn’t alone in that huge empty house.
