I was running late.
My dad had called to remind me that he’d pick me up at five for my tryout, but I wasn’t meeting him at the field until six.
I figured I had enough time to run up the street and grab a quick milkshake from Toot’s Drive-In.
Toots was an old-fashioned drive-in where carhops would come out and take your order.
It was one of my favorite places, and it always made me feel like I was in a movie.
I grabbed my milkshake and put the window down so the server could take my tray back.
As I pulled away from the curb, I looked down at my milkshake and smiled.
It was my reward for making it through this tough week.
