I was born to be a scientist.
My parents were both scientists.
My dad was a botanist and my mom was an entomologist.
I didn’t know what either of those words meant when I was little, but I did know that they made me cool.
Like how some kids’ dads were professional football players or movie stars, my parents were scientists.
They went on adventures.
Sometimes they even took me with them.
Like the time we went to Madagascar to catch a lemur, which was just about the coolest thing I’d ever done.
And the time we went to Brazil to find a new species of orchid.
And the time we went to Arizona to catch tarantulas.
Yeah, my parents were pretty cool.
But even though they were scientists and all, they weren’t very good at naming things.
Like my boat, the Lemur.
It wasn’t a very good name for a boat, but it was better than its original name: the Orchid.
