My oldest son, Evan, was grinning at me.
My youngest son, Caleb, was also grinning.
I was about to lose a bet, and there was no way out.
"Dammit," I muttered under my breath.
We were watching a football game, and my team was down by ten points with only five minutes left.
I’d made the mistake of telling my sons that if my team lost, I’d do a fart face forfeit.
I had no idea what a fart face forfeit even was, but I assumed it would be something bad.
Something very bad.
Because both of my sons were laughing like they’d never laughed before.
Their friend Nick was also laughing, but he wasn’t involved in the original bet.
He just liked to laugh when others were in trouble.
"I think you’re supposed to do a fart face now," Evan said as soon as the final whistle blew.
"Yeah!"
Caleb shouted.
"Do it!"
My wife Liz rolled her eyes at me.
She knew what was coming, and she just shook her head and walked away.
She’d dealt with this type of thing before, and she had no interest in watching it again.
"Guys, I don’t know what a fart face is," I said as I stood up from the couch.
"Does anyone know?"
Evan and Caleb looked at each other and shrugged.
