"Hey Marley, why are you always so happy and smiling all the time?"
A girl asked me that question in a party we had in our school today.
It was a prom party, and as usual, there was a group of students who were bullying me.
They were led by a girl named Tiffany.
She hated me for no reason at all, and I had no idea why she was behaving like that towards me.
"Hey, don't mind them," my cousin Marley said as she came close to me.
She was also a student of our school.
She was a daughter of a wealthy American businessman.
She was in our school because her parents lived in this area for a while.
"I'm just asking you a question," Tiffany said to my cousin.
She then turned to me and repeated the question she asked previously.
"Why are you always happy and smiling all the time?"
I sighed and answered her.
"There is no reason at all why I shouldn't be happy and smile," I said.
"Well, you shouldn't be smiling," she said as she frowned at me.
"Why not? I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be smiling," I said.
Tiffany scoffed and rolled her eyes at me.
"Well, your father is not a good person," she said.
"So, you shouldn't be smiling because of that," she added.
"What do you mean?"
The Pathologist's Daughter
Marley stepped forward and positioned herself in front of me.
She glared at Tiffany and said, "Leave her alone. You don't know anything about her father."
Tiffany crossed her arms over her chest and sneered at Marley.
"Who are you to tell me what to do?" she asked.
The other students formed a circle around us, whispering and watching the scene unfold.
Marley's hands clenched into fists, but she kept her body tense and controlled.
I stood behind her, feeling both grateful for her intervention and fearful of what might happen next.
Tiffany took a step closer to Marley, their faces only inches apart.
"You think you're so tough?" she taunted.
Marley remained silent, staring Tiffany down with a fierce expression.
The tension between them was palpable, and the other students watched with bated breath.
Marley finally spoke, her voice steady and unwavering: "You won't break her spirit."
The Pathologist's Daughter
Marley gripped my arm and pulled me away from the confrontation.
She led me through the crowd of students, her steps quick and determined.
As we walked away, I glanced back at Tiffany, who was still scowling at us.
We reached the exit and stepped outside into the cool night air.
Marley's grip on my arm loosened, and she turned to me with a concerned expression.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
I nodded, still feeling a bit shaken by the confrontation.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied.
Marley sighed and rubbed her temples.
"I don't know why Tiffany is so mean to you," she said.
"I don't know either," I replied.
"But let's forget about it. It's not worth our time."
The Pathologist's Daughter
Marley nodded in agreement and smiled at me.
"You're right," she said.
"Let's go get some ice cream instead."
I grinned back at her, feeling grateful for her friendship and support.
"Sounds like a plan," I said. We walked towards Marley's car, parked nearby.
The sound of our heels clicking on the pavement filled the air as we made our way to the vehicle.
