Yunishaa
She is a patient in the hospital recovering from a car accident. She is imaginative, loving, and slightly delusional. Yunishaa wakes up to find her brother Ashton and friends Luke and Calum in the room. She's thrilled to see Michael Clifford, her boyfriend, standing beside her doctor's cot, thinking he's there as a doctor. Reality hits when Michael reveals he's actually there as a patient too.
Ashton Irwin
He is Yunishaa's older brother and a drummer for the band 5 Seconds of Silence. He is protective, caring, and supportive. Ashton has been by Yunishaa's side since her accident, visiting her in the hospital and ensuring her wellbeing. He shares a close bond with his bandmates and sister, ensuring their family and music affairs are taken care of while she recovers.
Calum Gifford
He is Yunishaa’s friend and part of the band 5 Seconds of Silence. He is optimistic, caring, and playful. Calum joins Luke and Ashton in visiting Yunishaa in the hospital, bringing balloons to cheer her up. He takes photos with Yunishaa to document her recovery progress and brings humor to their playful photo shoot session in the hospital room.
The next morning I woke up and saw my boyfriend, Michael Clifford, standing in front of me.
I was so happy to see him and asked him how he came here.
He smiled and said that he is a doctor.
I believed him and thought that he came here to treat patients.
I was so happy to know that my boyfriend is a doctor.
I asked him about my condition and he told me that I am fine now and will be discharged soon.
I was so happy to hear this news and thanked him for being such a wonderful doctor.
I didn't know that he is just pretending to be a doctor so that I won't get worried about my condition.
I was thrilled to see him and didn't know that the other two men standing behind him are my brother Ashton and friends Calum and Luke.
All three of them are from the band 5 Seconds of Silence and are doctors.
They are my friends and my brother as well.
I watch as Ashton approaches my bed, his stethoscope dangling from his neck.
He places the cold metal disc against my chest, instructing me to breathe deeply.
The familiar beeping of the heart monitor provides a steady backdrop as he listens intently.
Michael steps aside, giving Ashton space to work.
Next, Ashton pulls out a small penlight from his white coat pocket.
His hand gently cups my chin, tilting my face upward.
The bright beam flashes across my eyes, first left, then right.
I squint against the harsh light but remain still as he checks my pupil response.
I watch as he finishes his mock examination, making notes on a clipboard he found somewhere.
It's surreal yet comforting to see him in this role.
Michael steps forward again, taking my hand in his while Calum and Luke hover near the foot of my bed, both wearing borrowed white coats.
I notice a slight rasp in Michael's voice as he speaks, but I'm too caught up in the moment to question it.
He squeezes my hand gently, and I see a flash of pain cross his face when he swallows.
The truth hangs unspoken between us, a silent promise that everything will be okay.
I notice Michael reaching for something on the medical cart beside my bed.
It's an oxygen mask attached to a clear tube.
He lifts it slowly, hesitantly, toward my face.
"What's this?"
I ask, confusion etched on my features.
He clears his throat painfully and nods reassuringly.
Ashton steps closer, helping Michael position the mask over my nose and mouth.
Luke adjusts the elastic strap behind my head, securing it in place.
The cool flow of oxygen fills my lungs as Michael's fingers brush my cheek.
Calum fiddles with the flow meter, pretending to make adjustments.
I breathe deeply, still believing they're my team of doctors.
I notice Michael's lips moving, but I can barely hear his words through the hiss of the mask.
His fingers brush my cheek again as he adjusts the elastic strap, his touch lingering a little longer than necessary.
The oxygen makes my head feel clearer, and I study his face more carefully.
The dark circles under his eyes, the way he keeps touching his throat, how his usual loud laugh has disappeared.
When he tries to speak again, his voice comes out as a painful-sounding croak.
He quickly turns away, but I catch him pressing his hand against his neck.
I study his pained expression as he tries to hide it.
My fingers trail down his sleeve, and I tug his arm gently.
He looks at me, confused, as I gesture to the chair beside my bed.
I want him to sit down.
At first, he resists, but Ashton steps forward and places a firm hand on his shoulder.
Luke and Calum exchange worried glances before Luke pulls up the chair.
Michael sinks into it, his shoulders slumping with exhaustion.
"Michael, what's going on?" I ask softly, my voice muffled by the mask.
He hesitates, glancing at Ashton and the others before finally meeting my eyes.
"I'm sick," he admits, his voice barely above a whisper, "and I need you to know before it's too late."
I pull off my oxygen mask, ignoring Ashton's protests.
"Calum, take him to an examination room," I say, my voice firm.
Michael shakes his head, but I grab his hand tighter.
"You need help," I insist.
His raspy breathing worries me.
Calum hesitates, exchanging glances with Luke.
I keep pushing.
"Calum, now."
Finally, Calum helps Michael stand, supporting him as he sways slightly.
I watch them head toward the door, Michael looking back at me with tired eyes.
Before they disappear, I call out, "I'll be waiting right here when you return."
I watch as Michael and Calum disappear through the doorway.
My heart races with worry, making the monitors beep faster.
Ashton notices my distress and reaches for the oxygen mask I discarded.
"You need this," he says firmly, but I try turning my head away.
Luke steps in to hold my shoulders while Ashton gently but insistently places the mask back over my nose and mouth.
I struggle briefly, wanting to follow Michael, but Ashton's steady hands secure the straps.
"Deep breaths," he instructs, adjusting the flow rate.
I lie back against the pillows, still breathing heavily through the mask.
Ashton and Luke keep their grip on my shoulders, ensuring I can't pull it off again.
The door opens, and Calum steps in.
His face breaks into a reassuring smile as he sees me.
My heart rate starts to slow down as he approaches my bed.
"Michael's stable now," Calum says, placing a gentle hand on my arm.
"He'll be okay."
I try to speak through the mask, but Ashton shakes his head, signaling me to leave it on.
Calum pulls up a chair beside my bed and begins explaining Michael's condition in a calm, steady voice.
I listen intently, noticing that Calum chooses his words carefully.
He talks about Michael's symptoms, the tests they ran, and the treatment plan.
As he speaks, I feel myself becoming more relaxed.
"There's something else you need to know," Calum continues, his tone shifting slightly.
I nod, urging him to go on as Ashton and Luke exchange a wary glance.
"The tests showed it's genetic," Calum reveals, "and there's a chance it could affect you too."
I grip Calum's sleeve with trembling fingers, my voice muffled by the mask.
"Please, I need to see him."
Calum hesitates, looking at Ashton for permission.
The heart monitor beeps steadily in the tense silence.
Finally, Ashton nods.
Calum turns back to me, his expression sympathetic.
"You can see him," he says gently, "but you have to stay in a wheelchair with the portable oxygen tank."
I nod immediately, already trying to sit up despite the dizziness.
