I kept following the trail of the cat burglar until I reached the rooftops of a building.
I looked around and saw that the trail stopped at the edge of the roof.
I could see a few strands of fur caught in the edge of a tile.
It seemed that the thief had climbed down to the street from here.
I looked around and saw that the next building was only a few feet away.
I leaped over to the next rooftop and continued to follow the trail.
After a few more rooftops, I saw that the trail led down into an alley.
I jumped down from the rooftop and followed the trail into the alley.
The trail led me through a series of alleys and side streets, each one narrower and darker than the last.
Suddenly, I heard a faint mewling cry, and my heart skipped a beat.
I quickened my pace, following the trail to a large abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town.
As I approached, I could hear the sound of an animal whimpering or crying.
My heart went out to the poor creature, and I quickened my pace.
I burst into the warehouse, ready for anything.
But what I saw took me completely by surprise.
A figure stood in the center of the room, holding Sarah Johnson's dog in its arms.
I entered the warehouse cautiously, my eyes scanning the dimly lit space.
The figure in the center of the room turned to face me, and I saw that it was none other than Copycat Batman.
He smirked at me, and I could tell that he was itching for a fight.
I approached him slowly, keeping my eyes on the dog in his arms.
The poor animal was whimpering softly, clearly scared and confused.
Copycat sneered at me, his eyes gleaming with malice.
"I knew you'd fall for it," he said, his voice dripping with contempt.
"I've been leaving a trail of clues all over town, just waiting for you to follow them. And now that you're here, I'll finally be able to put an end to your meddling once and for all."
I didn't respond to his taunts, instead focusing on the task at hand.
I needed to get the dog away from him without putting it in any more danger.
I circled around him slowly, trying to come up with a plan.
He turned to face me, still holding the dog in his arms.
It looked up at me with sad eyes, and I knew that I had to act fast. "You're not going to get out of here alive," Copycat said, his voice full of menace.
"But don't worry, I'll make sure that your death is quick and painless. After all, I'm a hero just like you. I wouldn't want to cause you any more suffering than necessary."
I ignored his taunts and continued to circle around him.
I was looking for an opening, a chance to disarm him without putting the dog in any more danger.
As I moved, he turned to face me, still holding the dog in his arms.
The poor animal looked up at me with sad eyes, and my heart went out to it.
Suddenly, I saw my chance.
I lunged forward, reaching out for the dog's collar.
Copycat tried to dodge out of the way, but I was too quick for him.
