I was dating a guy, let's call him Tom.
One day he told me it was over between us.
I thought maybe I did something or something, but he just told me it wasn't working anymore and that he didn't want to be with me.
I was heartbroken.
It took me a few days to get over him.
A week after my breakup, my sister told me she was getting married.
I couldn't believe it.
I had no idea she was seeing someone, let alone getting married.
She had kept it a secret, and I only found out because she needed my help with the wedding.
Then I found out it was with my exboyfriend!
Yes, you heard that right.
My sister was getting married to my exboyfriend.
It turned out they had been seeing each other behind my back while I was still with him.
A month later, the day of the wedding came.
I tried to put on a happy face for my sister, but inside I was hurting.
It still ripped my heart in two that she would do this to me, that she would keep it a secret and that he would do it as well.
After the ceremony and photos, we headed to the reception.
Betrayal's Wild Night
I couldn't stay.
I quietly left the reception and walked out onto the street.
My heels clicked against the pavement as I walked briskly down the street.
My heart was pounding in my chest, my head spinning with thoughts of anger and betrayal.
I didn't know where I was going or what I was doing.
I just knew I had to get away from there.
I walked for a few minutes until I came across a dimly lit bar.
I walked in and went straight to the bar.
"Vodka and soda," I told the bartender.
He nodded and poured me a drink.
I drank it quickly, then ordered another.
The alcohol started to dull my pain, and I felt better.
Betrayal's Wild Night
The music was loud, so I got up and headed to the dance floor.
A guy caught my eye, and we exchanged glances for a few minutes before he came over to me.
He put his hands on my hips, and we danced closely together.
His touch was firm but gentle, and he smelled good, like cologne and aftershave mixed together.
We danced for a few songs, then he leaned in close to me.
"Want to get out of here?" he whispered in my ear.
I nodded, and we left the bar together.
We stumbled into his apartment, holding each other upright as we made our way to his bedroom.
We fell onto his bed, still fully clothed, and passed out from too much alcohol consumption.
When I woke up the next morning, it was early in the morning, just after dawn broke through the window.
I looked around at the room I was in, trying to remember how I got there.
I realized I had finally taken the first step toward leaving the past behind.
Betrayal's Wild Night
I blinked against the bright light streaming in through the curtains, which were not the curtains I was used to.
My head was pounding, and my mouth felt dry.
I sat up in bed, looking around at the room I was in.
It was a nice room, with a large bed, dresser, and walk-in closet.
There was a man lying next to me, still asleep.
He was on his side, facing away from me.
I looked at him for a moment before I realized he was the guy from last night.
I glanced down at myself and noticed I was wearing a loose t-shirt that wasn't mine.
I wondered when I had changed into it but couldn't remember.
I tried to think back to the previous night, but all I could remember was laughter and whispered conversations in my ear as we danced together.
I got out of bed quietly and looked around for my dress but couldn't see it anywhere.
I walked over to the dresser and looked in the mirror that hung above it.
Betrayal's Wild Night
My hair was a mess, and my makeup was smudged all over my face.
I looked like shit. As I turned to walk away from the mirror, something caught my eye on the dresser.
It was a framed photo of two people: Mark Johnson and Sarah's fiancé.
I felt my stomach drop as I heard a rustle from the bed behind me.
"Morning," he said groggily, rubbing his eyes before noticing my expression.
"What's wrong?" he asked, sitting up and following my gaze to the photo.
