I'm sitting in my bedroom, listening to the rain hit the windowpane.
It's calming, soothing.
My mind is blank, empty.
I'm not thinking of anything, not feeling anything.
I'm just here, in the moment, enjoying the sound of the rain.
My phone buzzes on my nightstand, interrupting the peacefulness in my room.
I pick it up and see that I have a text from Emily.
"Hey, what's up?"
I type back.
"Not much. U?"
She responds.
"Same. Rainy days suck."
Emily is my best friend.
We've been friends since third grade.
She's one of the few people that truly gets me.
"True."
I type back.
"But at least we have our phones."
Emily and I talk on our phones all the time.
We even have a code so we know when we're talking to each other, and not our parents or brothers checking our phones.
