My best friend Jay asked me if I would be handsomer with two arms or four arms.
I know it sounds silly, but I have given it some thought.
I think I would go with two arms.
Four arms would be too much for me.
I don’t think I could pull it off.
I think I would look like an octopus or something.
I think I would be able to get away with two arms, no matter what they do.
If they are muscular, I can see myself as a bodybuilder or something.
If they are skinny, I can see myself as an artist.
If they are average, I can see myself as a computer programmer.
I can see myself being successful with two arms, but I don’t think I would be able to pull off four arms.
I am glad that he trusts me enough to share that with me.
I think that is pretty intimate, even though it is kind of silly.
It shows that he values my opinion and trusts me with his thoughts.
I hope that I can always be there for him and let him know that he can trust me with anything he wants to share.
Handsome With Two Arms
I sit at my desk and stare at my reflection in the dark computer screen.
My arms are resting on the table, and I flex my muscles, watching how the shadows change.
Then I let them relax and watch how they change again.
I stand up and walk to the full-length mirror in my bedroom.
I look at myself from the side and try to imagine what I would look like with four arms.
I cross my arms over my chest and see how that looks.
I put my hands in my pockets and see how that looks.
I reach up and touch the ceiling and see how that looks.
Each movement creates a different angle, a different perspective.
My phone buzzes with a text from Jay asking if I have thought more about his question.

I sit back down at my desk and type out a careful response.
"Two arms look better on you," I write, then delete it.
I want to explain why I think that.
I type out a longer response, explaining how my current proportions create a balanced silhouette, especially when I wear my favorite blue jacket.
Four arms would throw off that balance and make it impossible to find clothes that fit well.

I also mention how my current build is well-suited to my job as a graphic designer, where precise movements are important.
Before I hit send, I add one more sentence: "Thank you for trusting me enough to ask me such a personal question."
