Among the Girls

设定:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

School.
The one place I had no interest whatsoever in returning to, and yet here I was.
Walking through the gates like some kind of lab rat.
Gravel crunches beneath my sneakers as I make my way up to the front entrance, and when I step inside, a bell rings out over the intercom welcoming me (or warning everyone else) of my arrival.
A robotic voice echoes down the hallway and into what’s probably every classroom on campus: "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole school. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school is already talking about you, wondering what kind of an asshole you’ll be."
I roll my eyes toward the ceiling because come on—a welcome like that?
The robotic voice continues: "Will he be nice or will he cause chaos?"
Giggles erupt behind me from a group by their lockers just down from where another set of doors leads outside.
"I vote for chaos."
Assuming they’re talking about me—and why wouldn’t they be since there are no other boys at this school—I decide not respond or react in any way because honestly?
Who even says something like that?
I turn to face them, my steps slow and deliberate.
The girls’ giggles fade when they realize I’m looking at them, and the one who spoke up, a petite blonde with hair barely reaching her chin, smirks.
*What?*
I ask.
Her smile falters for a second before she shrugs.
"Just wondering what you’ll bring to this place."
A girl next to her, taller with glasses, nods.
"We’re all watching."
I nod.
Guess we’ll see.
I glance around at the other students watching me from their lockers or as they walk down the hallway, then back at the girls.
"Guess we’ll see."

The blonde girl tilts her head, curiosity in her eyes.
"Do you even want to be here?"
I pause, considering my answer before I speak.

"I don’t really have a choice."
I lean against the locker behind me, fingers drumming against the metal door.
The hallway falls quiet, and I’m sure everyone’s listening in on our conversation.
The blonde girl’s friend shifts uncomfortably, but the ringleader doesn’t back down.
A few girls whisper to each other from their spots by their lockers, and I hear "Do you think he’ll get in trouble for that?" and "I bet he will."
I push off from the locker and take a step closer to the blonde.
The fluorescent lights overhead flicker, casting an unflattering glare over everything in the hallway.
