It was a usual day in the university, and we were having our last class.
I didn't bring a pencil with me, so I asked my classmate, who was behind me, to lend me her pencil.
As she turned around, her long, perfectly wavy, dark hair moved with her.
Her dark brown eyes made eye contact with me for just a second, but that one second was all that mattered.
A spark ran through me as I felt my heart flutter.
It wasn't just a normal spark; it was the spark that meant you found your true love, your soulmate.
I knew right there and then that I had to make her mine, so I could make her my wife one day.
As she gave me the pencil, I noticed how beautiful her fingers looked.
Her hands were small, and they looked soft to the touch.
I wanted to hold them in my palms and never let them go.
I handed her the pencil back after the class was finished, and I asked her to give me her name and contact number.
She told me that her name was Vivian, and after a little struggle, she gave it to me.
I knew she had a boyfriend because when she was leaving the classroom, a guy came up to her and kissed her on the cheek.
I waited for her to leave before I went to my car.
The Pencil
I followed her from a safe distance to make sure she didn't notice me.
She walked through the campus, and I could see her hair moving in the afternoon breeze.
After a few minutes, I saw her go into the library.
I didn't go to the library often, so I didn't know where it was exactly.
I stood at the door for a few seconds before I decided to go in.
I looked around and saw her sitting at a table with the guy who kissed her on the cheek.
He was tall and had blue eyes that were looking straight at me.
He looked like he was in his mid-twenties.
He had a strong jawline, and his dark hair was perfectly styled.
He was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, which made him look more attractive than he already was.
As I looked away from him, I noticed that Vivian was talking to him about something, but he wasn't listening to her.
He was just staring at her face. After a few minutes of talking, he finally started listening to what she had to say.
The Pencil
He nodded his head as she spoke and put his hand on hers on top of the table.
They were holding hands for a few seconds before they let go of each other's hands when they saw people looking at them.
They started talking again, but this time they were talking quietly.
I could see that they were both serious about their conversation because their faces looked serious.
After a few minutes of talking, his face changed from being happy to being irritated.
His eyebrows frowned as he talked to her, and I could see that his voice was rising slightly.
She looked uncomfortable as she listened to what he had to say; she kept glancing around nervously at people who were passing by their table.
I turned away, realizing that I needed a new plan.
The Pencil
I walked out of the library and stood outside the door.
I waited for a few minutes before I heard a loud voice coming from inside the library.
I peeked through the window and saw that it was the guy who was talking to Vivian earlier.
He was standing in the middle of the library floor, and his voice echoed off the walls.
"Vivian, we need to talk about us," he said, his voice a mix of desperation and anger.
Vivian's eyes darted around the room, clearly embarrassed by the attention they were getting.
She whispered something to him that I couldn't hear, but his response was loud and clear.
"Why won't you commit?" he demanded.
The tension between them was palpable, and I could see that other students were starting to stare at them.
"I just need more time, Alex," Vivian replied, her voice barely above a whisper, yet filled with a quiet determination.
"Time for what, Vivian?" Alex shot back, frustration evident in his tone. "Is there someone else?"
Vivian hesitated, glancing toward the window where I stood hidden, and said, "It's not that simple."
The Pencil
I lingered outside the library, unsure of what to do next.
Suddenly, a soft voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Evan, is everything okay?"
It was Mrs. Collins, the librarian.
She had kind eyes and a warm smile that always made me feel at ease.
She had been working at the university for over twenty years and knew almost everyone by name.
She was also known for her ability to read people well.
She could tell when someone was upset or stressed just by looking at them.
I looked at her and saw that she had a knowing look in her eyes.
I knew she had seen the argument between Vivian and Alex earlier and had come out to check on me.
"Mrs. Collins, I'm fine," I said, trying to reassure her.
But she just smiled knowingly and nodded toward the library entrance.
The Pencil
"Young love can be complicated," she said softly.
I hesitated for a moment before deciding to confide in her.
"Vivian is the girl I've been talking about," I explained, "and Alex is her boyfriend. They were arguing about their relationship."
Mrs. Collins listened attentively, nodding along as I spoke.
When I finished, she smiled again and said, "It's not uncommon for relationships to have ups and downs. Sometimes it's best to give each other space." I nodded, taking her words into consideration.
I knew that I needed to think carefully about how to approach Vivian now that I knew about her argument with Alex.
Mrs. Collins continued, "Evan, you're a good person. Whatever you decide, make sure it's what's best for both you and Vivian."
I thanked her for her advice and went back to my car.
As I drove home, I couldn't stop thinking about Vivian and Alex's argument.
I wondered if she was really interested in me or if she was just using me as a distraction from her problems with Alex.
I decided that the best thing to do was to give her space for now and see what happened next.
Maybe if I gave her time, she would realize that she didn't need him anymore and would come running back to me.
I pulled into my driveway and got out of my car.
I was about to head inside when my phone buzzed with a message.
It was from Vivian: "Can we talk?"
My heart skipped a beat as I replied, "Of course, when and where?"
The Pencil
She suggested meeting at the campus café, and I agreed.
I arrived at the café a few minutes early and saw her already sitting there.
She looked around the room nervously before her eyes landed on me.
She smiled and waved, and I went over to join her.
"Hey," she said softly as I sat down.
"Hey," I replied, noticing that she seemed different today.
Usually, she was confident and outgoing, but now she seemed hesitant and unsure of herself.
"Evan, there's something you should know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
I leaned in closer, sensing that what she had to say was important.
"What is it?"
I asked gently.
She took a deep breath before speaking again.
The Pencil
"Alex has been seeing someone else," she confessed, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her notebook.
The Pencil
I watched as her fingers trembled slightly, betraying the nervousness she was trying to hide.
"I didn't expect to feel this way," she continued, glancing up at me with those deep brown eyes.
My heart raced in my chest, and I knew that now was the time to make my move.
"Vivian," I began, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through me.
"I've had a crush on you since the day we met."
Her eyes widened slightly, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause.
"I think I do too," she replied softly, her voice barely audible over the sound of my own heartbeat.
"Really?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady despite the excitement bubbling inside me.
She nodded, a small smile playing on her lips.
"But I need time to sort things out with Alex first."
The Pencil
I nodded, understanding the complexity of the situation.
"Of course," I replied, my voice filled with understanding.
We sat in silence for a moment, the air thick with unspoken words.
Finally, she spoke up again.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to lead you on."
I shook my head, reassuring her that it was okay.
"It's not your fault," I said softly.
"I knew you were taken."
She nodded, her eyes flicking back and forth between mine.
"I'll make it right," she promised, her voice filled with determination.
We sat in silence for a few more minutes before she spoke again.
"I need to go," she said, glancing at her watch.
The Pencil
"But I'll see you soon?"
I nodded, smiling softly.
"Of course," I replied, watching as she gathered her things and stood up to leave.
As she walked away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope rising within me.
Maybe this was the start of something special.
Maybe Vivian would realize that she didn't need Alex anymore and would come running back to me. I waited until she was out of sight before getting up and leaving the café myself.
The drive home was filled with thoughts of what could be, each one more hopeful than the last.
I pulled into my driveway and got out of my car, feeling a sense of excitement wash over me as I walked toward my front door.
I opened it and stepped inside, calling out to my mom as I entered the house.
"Hey, Mom!"
I called out, making my way into the kitchen to grab a drink.
She poked her head out of her office door as I passed by, a smile on her face.
"Hey sweetie," she replied, "how was your day?"
I shrugged nonchalantly as I grabbed a glass from the cabinet and headed to the fridge to grab some juice.
"It was good," I replied casually, taking a sip of my drink before continuing on my way upstairs to my room. As I reached the top step, I paused for a moment before turning back around and heading back down to the kitchen.
My mom looked up at me curiously as I entered the room again.
"What's up?" she asked, noticing the change in my demeanor.
I took another sip of my drink before setting it down on the counter and looking at her intently.
"Mom," I began slowly, "can we talk?"
She nodded immediately, sensing that this was important.
The Pencil
"Of course, sweetie," she replied, setting her laptop aside and giving me her full attention.
I took a deep breath before continuing.
"I met this girl," I said softly, "and I think I might be falling in love with her."
My mom's eyes softened as she listened to my words, her expression filled with understanding.
"That sounds amazing," she replied gently.
"Tell me more about her."
I nodded, taking another sip of my drink before continuing.
"She's smart and funny," I said, a smile spreading across my face.
"And she has the most beautiful hair and eyes."
My mom smiled at my enthusiasm, her eyes shining with pride.
"That sounds like quite the catch," she teased lightly.
I chuckled, feeling a sense of happiness wash over me.
The Pencil
"Yeah, she definitely is," I replied, my voice filled with sincerity.
My mom nodded, her expression serious for a moment before she spoke again.
"Evan," she said softly, "I'm glad you're happy. But remember to take things slow and not rush into anything."
I nodded, knowing that she was right. "I will," I replied softly, feeling a sense of gratitude toward my mom for always being there for me.
She smiled again, her eyes shining with love and support.
"I'm always here for you," she said softly.
My mom suddenly screams and gasps in pain as she clutches her 9 month baby bump.
I smiled back at her, feeling grateful for the love and support of my family.
I finished my drink before heading back upstairs to my room, feeling happy and content after our conversation.
As I settled into bed that night, I couldn't help but think about Vivian and how much I wanted to be with her.
I drifted off to sleep with visions of her in my mind, hoping that maybe someday soon we could make our relationship official. As I sat across from my mom in the kitchen, I could see the concern etched on her face as I shared my feelings about Vivian with her.
She listened patiently as I poured out my heart to her, offering gentle nods and occasional words of advice.
Just as I was finishing up what I had to say, a sharp gasp escaped from my mom's lips as she clutched at her swollen belly.
Her face contorted in pain as she cried out, "The baby's coming!"
Panic surged through me as I leapt up from my chair to rush to her side.
The Pencil
I quickly dialed 911 on my phone, trying to keep my voice steady as I explained the situation to the operator.
My mom gripped my hand tightly as another contraction hit her, her face twisted in pain.
I followed the operator's instructions, keeping a close eye on my mom and timing her contractions.
"It won't be long now," I reassured her, trying to keep my own panic at bay.
As we waited for the ambulance to arrive, I sat beside my mom, holding her hand tightly and keeping a close eye on her.
I tried to push thoughts of Vivian out of my mind, knowing that this was not the time for such distractions.
Finally, I heard the sound of sirens outside as the ambulance pulled up to our house.
I stood up quickly, rushing to open the door for the paramedics as they hurried in with their equipment. They rushed over to where my mom was sitting, checking her vitals and asking her questions about what she was feeling.
I watched anxiously as they worked, feeling a sense of relief wash over me that help had finally arrived.
The paramedics quickly loaded my mom into the ambulance, and I followed behind as they rushed off towards the hospital.
I glanced down at my phone in my hand, thinking briefly about reaching out to Vivian to let her know what was going on.
But then I shook my head, knowing that this wasn't the right time.
The Pencil
As we drove, I sat beside my mom in the back of the ambulance, holding her hand tightly as she continued to experience contractions.
The paramedics worked efficiently, checking her vitals and monitoring her progress.
Suddenly, my mom's face contorted in pain as another contraction hit.
But then, just as quickly as it had come, it subsided.
She let out a deep breath, and then suddenly a cry filled the air.
"It's here," one of the paramedics announced, holding up a small bundle of joy.
"It's a boy," they added with a smile.
I felt a wave of relief wash over me as I looked at the tiny baby in their arms.
My mom smiled weakly at me, her eyes shining with happiness.
I smiled back at her, feeling grateful that everything had gone smoothly.
One of the paramedics handed me a pair of scissors and gestured towards the umbilical cord. I nodded, taking the scissors and carefully cutting through the cord.
It was a small but significant moment, marking the beginning of this new life.
The Pencil
As we continued on our way to the hospital, I couldn't help but think about all that had happened in the past few hours.
From meeting Vivian to watching my mom give birth to this tiny baby boy, it had been quite the journey.
As I sat there, cradling my new baby brother in my arms, my mom looked over at me with a tired but content smile.
"Evan," she said softly, "thank you for being here. I couldn't have done it without you."
I nodded, feeling a swell of emotion as I replied, "I'm just glad everything turned out okay. He's perfect."
