Ethan walked into the apartment and looked around.
He was in a suit, just like the lawyers or businessmen one might see in downtown.
His eyes landed on me as I was standing by the kitchen door.
"You need help with the renovation," he said.
I raised an eyebrow.
"What makes you say that?"
"This place is too small for you. You are better than this."
I scoffed.
"Better?"
"You know what I mean. This place is too small for all your paintings. And it's not really furnished. What happened to all of it?"
I sighed, remembering the last fight I had with Lily before she left.
She couldn't take living in such a financial mess anymore, she had said.
I couldn't blame her for wanting more, but how could I give it to her?
I wasn't earning enough.
And she took all our stuff with her when she left.
It was her right, I guessed.
She had paid for all of it.
Ethan was looking at me expectantly, waiting for my answer.
But how could I tell him that my girlfriend didn't only leave me, she took all our stuff with her?
How pathetic would that sound?
So I shook my head.
"Lily and I broke up," I told him.
"Why?"
"She couldn't take it anymore. Living in such a financial mess."
Ethan nodded thoughtfully.
