My mouth instantly fell open in shock at what I saw.

"Hey, Honey... I’m sorry," she said hastily, though her voice sounded somewhat strained.
"What’s all the noise, Mark? Is everything okay in here? Are you okay?"
I asked Belle, confused by her condition and the fact that she called me ‘Honey.’
Then I turned to Jake.
"Is everything okay?"
I asked him.
"Oh, yeah... Everything’s fine," Jake said with a smirk.
He lifted Belle’s chin so that her face was looking up at us.
I took a deep breath to steady my racing heart.
"Jake, what the hell is going on?"
I asked him, trying to keep my anger from boiling over.
His grin faltered slightly as he looked at Belle, who was avoiding my gaze.
"I caught her with someone else," Jake said seriously.
"What?"
I asked, not sure I’d heard him correctly.
"You heard me," Jake said, his voice still serious.
He let go of Belle’s chin and she looked down at the floor again.
"Is this true?"
I asked her directly.
She nodded slowly, confirming my worst fears.
