The crystal shimmered, pulsing with an otherworldly light.
I reached out and touched it, feeling its power surge through me.
The connection was deep and instant, as if I’d known this artifact my entire life.
As if it were a part of me.
I knew, in that moment, that my life would never be the same.
I pulled my hand back, afraid of its power.
Afraid of what I might do if I gave in to its temptation.
I turned to face Marcus.
"It’s real."
Marcus had been skeptical, to say the least, when I told him about the crystal.
About the sunken city I’d found off the coast of Florida.
About the artifact itself, which pulsed and shimmered with an otherworldly light.
But now, as he looked at the crystal through the glass wall of the submersible, he was silent.

I gestured to the crystal.
"Touch it."
Marcus hesitated, his eyes locked on the shimmering surface of the artifact.
I knew he was torn, his skepticism battling with his curiosity.
He didn’t want to believe in magic, didn’t want to believe that there was something in this world he couldn’t understand or explain.
But at the same time, he couldn’t deny what was right in front of him.
Slowly, he reached out and touched the crystal.
As soon as his fingertips brushed its surface, a jolt of energy ran through him.
His eyes widened in shock and awe, and for a moment, he forgot to breathe.
The power of the crystal was intoxicating, a heady mix of fear and exhilaration that left you wanting more.
Marcus pulled his hand back, breathless.
He looked at me, and I saw the same realization in his eyes that I’d come to myself.
This changed everything.
It opened up possibilities we’d never dreamed of before, but at the same time, it was dangerous.
So dangerous that we shouldn’t even be here, shouldn’t be touching it.
But now that we had, I wasn’t sure we could go back to the way things were before.
