I watched as my father threw back shot after shot.
I stood in the corner, hidden by the crowd, and watched as he drank himself into oblivion.
It was the anniversary of my mom's death, and I knew he was grief stricken.
I had been so wrapped up in my own emotions that I hadn't stopped to think about how he was handling it.
My dad had always been the strong one, the protective figure that I looked up to.
I never thought he would break like this.
I knew I needed to talk to him, but I wasn't sure he was ready to listen.
I glanced around the bar and saw Sarah across the room.
She was sipping on a drink, her eyes fixed on me.
I mouthed 'help me' and she made her way over.
"What's going on?"
She asked, nodding toward my dad.
"He's all over the place tonight. He just lost his wife a year ago, and now he's going to lose me. I don't know what to do."
Sarah took another sip of her drink before turning to me.
"You need to talk to him."
"I've tried. He doesn't want to listen."
Sarah glanced at my dad before turning back to me.
