This is the story of the most epic, most legendary, most unbelievable summer ever.
It started when my twin sister Mabel and I came to spend the summer with our Great-uncle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon.
Gravity Falls is a weird place.
I mean, it’s not just full of eccentric people and weird tourists.
No.
It’s more than that.
Much more.
You see, there are secrets in Gravity Falls.
Big ones.
And I’m not talking about the secret recipe for the sauce at the Diner or the hidden stash of Soos’ favorite video games.
Nope.
I’m talking about real secrets.
Supernatural ones.
And I know them all.
Well, most of them, anyway.
It all began when I found this journal.
A secret journal that belonged to a kid named Ford.
Not Stanford Ford, my great-uncle Stan, but Ford.
A different Ford.
A Ford who knew all the secrets of Gravity Falls and wrote them down in this book.
But that’s another story altogether.
Let me tell you about my summer in Gravity Falls…
Mabel Pines: I’d like to add that I had an amazing summer too!
Dipper Pines: Yeah, yeah!
Anyway, here’s my story:
I spent the summer with my great-uncle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon, along with my twin sister Mabel.
Mabel Pines: (excitedly) That’s me!
Dipper Pines: We were sent to Gravity Falls for the summer because my parents thought we needed some fresh air and a break from the city.
So, we packed our bags and boarded a bus headed for Gravity Falls.
After a long ride, we finally arrived at the Mystery Shack, my great-uncle Stan’s tourist trap.
I followed Mabel up the creaky wooden steps, our suitcases bumping against each leg.
Before we could even knock, the door swung open.
Standing before us was Great-uncle Stan himself.
He was wearing his signature fez and eyepatch, along with a stained white tank top and boxers.
His belly was hairy and round, and he was scratching it contentedly as he grinned at us with his crooked yellow teeth.
"Welcome to the Mystery Shack, kids!" he declared, spreading his arms wide.
The musty smell of old wood and mothballs hit my nose as we stepped inside.
Behind him, I could see rows of dusty display cases filled with all sorts of bizarre taxidermy creatures.
There was a jackalope with three heads staring at me with glass eyes.
Great-uncle Stan: "Don't worry, they're just for show. But if you hear any strange noises at night, it's probably just the wind... or is it?"
Mabel Pines: "Ooh, spooky! I love it already!"
Dipper Pines: "Stan, do you really think we're going to find anything real in this place?"
While I was organizing the merchandise in the gift shop, I heard heavy footsteps approaching from the back room.
I looked up to see a man who looked exactly like Grunkle Stan, but with a few key differences.
He had six fingers on his left hand, and he was wearing a suit and tie instead of a fez and eyepatch.
Before I could even process what I was seeing, the room suddenly dropped about 30 degrees in temperature.
The fluorescent lights above us flickered and then burst, showering us with sparks.
A high-pitched laugh echoed through the shop as reality seemed to warp around us.
The merchandise on the shelves began to float in mid-air, and a glowing yellow triangle materialized in front of us.
The triangle had one giant eye that glowed red as it took in its surroundings.
The man who looked like Grunkle Stan adjusted his black bow tie and tipped his top hat mockingly at us.
I stood frozen between the two Stans as the triangle entity hovered closer.
Its single eye was fixed on me, and I could feel static electricity crackling in the air.
My hair stood on end, and I could hear a strange buzzing noise coming from the triangle.
The gift shop merchandise continued to float around us - postcards, snow globes, cheap trinkets spinning in slow circles.
The six-fingered Stan backed away slowly, fumbling with something in his jacket pocket.
My Grunkle Stan stepped forward, positioning himself between me and the triangle.
"Don't answer him," he warned me, his voice shaking slightly.
The triangle's eye narrowed, and I felt an overwhelming urge to ask again.
Triangle Entity: "Oh, come on, kid! Aren't you just dying to know what secrets lie beyond the veil?"
Six-Fingered Stan: "Dipper, listen to me. This thing feeds on curiosity and chaos; don't give it what it wants."
Grunkle Stan: "Yeah, kid, trust us. Some mysteries are better left unsolved."
The floating objects crashed to the floor as the triangle entity tipped an imaginary hat.
"Bill Cipher's the name, chaos is my game," it said in a high-pitched, echoing voice that made my teeth vibrate.
The six-fingered Stan stepped forward, placing a protective hand on my shoulder.
"And I'm Stanford Pines - the real Stanford Pines."
He glared at my Grunkle, his eyes narrowing.
"Your great-uncle's twin brother."
Grunkle Stan's shoulders slumped as he removed his fez, revealing a head of thinning brown hair.
"Ford, I can explain," he started, but Bill cut him off with a cackle.
"Oh, this is rich! The family reunion I've been waiting for!"
I looked between the two identical faces - one in a suit, one in a stained tank top.
