I was enjoying the ride, watching the countryside roll by as I chatted idly with the conductor, an old friend of mine.
We stood in the space between the second and third cars, looking out the windows at the passing trees and fields.
It was a beautiful day, and I was happy to be on my way to the annual medical conference.
I was looking forward to hearing some of the latest research, and catching up with some old friends.
The conductor excused himself and headed into the third car.
I turned back to look out the window on the other side.
It was a more scenic route, following a river through a steep sided valley.
I could see a farmhouse in the distance, and wondered what it would be like to live way out here.
As I watched, a small herd of deer emerged from the woods and made their way across the fields to the river.
