MidReal Story

Ghost Marriage

My name is Chen Mo, and I’m 28 years old.
I’m an ordinary office worker, and I have a rather special birth chart.
I know this because every single line on my chart belongs to the "Yin" category, making me a person with a "Yin Fate."
At first, I didn’t think much of it.
Who pays attention to their birth chart anyway?
That all changed when I got sick.
It was a serious illness, and even now I don’t know what it was.
All I know is that it came out of nowhere, just like it later disappeared.
My parents were frantic, trying everything they could think of to save me.
That’s when my grandma stepped in.
She knows all sorts of supernatural traditions and taboos.
One of those taboos is called "borrowing life."
It’s a forbidden technique, but Grandma Chen doesn’t really care about that.
What she cares about is saving my life, and that’s exactly what she did.
After that, strange things started happening.
I don’t really know how to explain them, so I’ll just say they were supernatural.
I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true.
Ghost Marriage
I sit at my desk, turning the dark red invitation card over in my hands.
The characters etched into the paper seem to shimmer, matching the exact Eight Characters of my birth chart.
My phone shows 11:15 PM.
Through my window, I spot an old black taxi idling below, its headlights dim and flickering.
The driver, face obscured, motions for me to come down.
My legs move on their own, carrying me to the elevator.
In the lobby, the night guard is inexplicably absent.
The taxi's door creaks open.
Inside, a faint scent of incense mingles with musty upholstery.
"Chen Mo, you finally came," the driver says, his voice a gravelly whisper that sends a chill down my spine.
"Who are you?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady as I slide into the backseat.
"The one who lent you life," he replies, glancing at me through the rearview mirror with eyes that seem to hold centuries of secrets.
The taxi glides into the empty streets of Shanghai.
Each turn takes us further away from the glittering skyscrapers, into a part of the city I've never seen.
Streetlights become dimmer, buildings older and worn.
The driver's wrinkled face occasionally catches the light, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
I grip the strange invitation card tightly in my hand, my heart pounding.
"Where are we going?"
I manage to ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
He doesn't respond.
The silence stretches, punctuated only by the hum of the engine and the occasional passing car.
I try to check my phone for the GPS, but all I see is static on the screen.
Ghost Marriage
The incense smell grows stronger, making my head spin.
Looking out the window, I notice something strange - the same convenience store passes us three times.
My mind reels as I realize we're driving in some kind of impossible loop. Suddenly, the driver speaks again, his voice cutting through the fog of confusion in my mind.
"Your debt is due," he says, his eyes flickering towards me in the rearview mirror once more.
Before I can react, he turns down a narrow alley that seems to appear out of nowhere.
The taxi comes to an abrupt stop in front of a dilapidated building with a crooked wooden sign creaking in the wind.
"Here," he says simply.
