Andrew Thompson
indicating his patience and kindness. Andrew invites me to dinner, expressing his desire to get to know me better. His gentle touch and caring demeanor make me feel at ease. I am drawn to his compassionate nature and want to learn more about him.
He smiles at me before I turn to leave.
I walk over to the bench I was sitting at earlier and gather my things.
Once I have everything in my hands, I turn to my left and start down the sidewalk again.
I keep walking until I turn the corner and head back down the hill I walked up earlier.
As I walk, I notice that the man is behind me again.
This time, though, he taps me on the shoulder.
I stop walking and turn to face him, noticing that he has a light blue button-down shirt on with a pair of dark jeans.
His broad shoulders fill out his shirt perfectly, and his long legs move her body in a nice stride as he walks.
If I wasn’t so lost in thought before, I definitely would have noticed him then.
"Are you okay? You seemed upset when I saw you earlier."
I don’t know why this man is being so nice to me.
I mean, he’s a complete stranger.
There’s no reason for him to be concerned about my well-being.
"I’m fine."
I sigh and look down at my feet.
It’s not like I can tell him what’s really going on and why I’m so upset.
I don’t know him at all.
"Do you mind if I ask where you’re headed?"
He looks at me with caring eyes and a gentle smile.
I shift my weight from one foot to the other, unsure of how to answer him.
The evening sun is starting to set, casting long shadows across the sidewalk as we stand there.
He keeps his distance from me, but his body is angled in my direction, and his eyes are open and patient as he waits for my response.
"I was thinking about going home," I say finally.
His eyebrows furrow slightly with worry, and he glances up at the sky, which is slowly darkening into twilight.
"Let me walk with you," he offers quietly.
"Just to make sure you get there safely."
I nod, grateful for the unexpected companionship as we begin to walk side by side into the deepening dusk.
As we walk, he points to a small meadow near the park.
"Would you mind if we take a detour?"
He asks me.
"There’s a place I like to go sometimes when I need to clear my head."
I shrug and nod my head.
He leads the way, and we walk up a grassy hill dotted with wildflowers.
The setting sun casts a warm golden light over everything, and the air is filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
At the top of the hill, he stops at a flat spot overlooking the city below.
He turns to me and smiles.
"Would you like to join me for a little afternoon picnic?"
