George W. Bush becomes an unexpected viral TikTok star by posting sleeping tutorials.
If you have a TikTok, you’ve probably stumbled upon George W.
Bush’s account at some point.
If not, let me take you on a journey to explain how the seventy-three-year-old former President of the United States became an unexpected hit on the platform—teaching people how to sleep.
Bush first joined TikTok in May 2020, much to the surprise of everyone who knew him.
After all, his youngest daughters Jenna and Barbara had to teach him how to use text messaging when he was in office, so it was unexpected that he would suddenly turn to the app of choice for teens everywhere.
But he had a good reason for joining: he wanted to connect with younger people who might not know him as well as others.
So, he started posting short videos of himself painting, making pizza, and even giving out free donuts to people waiting in line to vote.
Most were met with a positive response, but none were as successful as Bush’s “sleeping tutorials,” which began airing nightly in March 2021.
Yes, you read that right: Former President George W.
The first video was posted on March 4, 2021.
In it, Bush was lying in bed staring at the camera with a friendly smile and his eyes wide open.
The caption read, “In bed by 8pm & it’s only 7:59!”
His followers—and soon-to-be followers—loved it and asked for more in the comments.
So, Bush gave them more and soon found himself with millions of views and over 2 million followers just two weeks later.
At seventy-three, George W.
Bush has worn many hats: Yale graduate, fighter pilot, oilman, owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, governor of Texas, and forty-third President of the United States.
But no one—not even Bush himself—would have predicted he’d become a TikTok star at seventy-three… teaching people how to sleep.
After all, George W.
Bush was not exactly known for his ability to get a good night’s rest during his time in office.
He’d even given up his morning coffee routine, replacing it with green tea and water because he thought caffeine was keeping him up.
But his sleeping patterns improved after he left office, and he now makes sure to get eight hours of sleep each night, using three things to help him get there:
a sound machine set to “ocean,” an eye mask, and ear plugs.
He also wears pajamas decorated with aliens.
In the video, Bush lies down, puts on his mask, and instructs his followers to do the same.
He then sets his machine to “ocean” before saying goodnight.
The entire thing is under thirty seconds long, and viewers—many of whom say they watch the videos right before bed—find it soothing.
Bush has always been known for his sense of humor, even though he was once accused of being insensitive for joking around at times when it wasn’t appropriate.
But his bedtime videos have been met with praise from those who say they miss his leadership and sense of humor.
And even if there are some people who don’t appreciate his jokes, Bush has stopped caring what critics think.
He’s no longer President, so he doesn’t have to.
