George W. Bush becomes an unexpected viral TikTok star by posting sleeping tutorials.
So I’m a TikTok star now, apparently.
I mean, that’s not how I would put it, but that’s what the kids these days are saying.
And as much as I hate to admit it, the kids may be right on this one.
It all started when I posted a video on how to sleep.
Yes, you read that right.
How to sleep.
I put on a suit and tie, filmed myself walking across the room, and then turned off the lights as I said, “Now y’all go to sleep.” I pretended to leave the room, but snuck back in to say “Goodnight” before the video ended.
It got over 2.9 million views.
I think it’s funny that so many people watched a video of me pretending to sleep because I don’t even watch videos of myself pretending to sleep.
But I guess we’ve all done stranger things during this pandemic.
After my sleep video went viral, lots of people started following me on TikTok and asking me to post more content.
So I did.I’ve been posting videos of me pretending to sleep every night around 10 p.m., and they’ve been getting millions of views every time.
Naturally, this has sparked a lot of questions.
Who is this guy?
Is he okay?
What is he doing?
How did he get so popular?
And my personal favorite: “Is he drunk?”
For the record, I am not drunk, but I am in bed by 10 o’clock, and that’s pretty much the same thing these days.
So how did an elderly man with white hair end up getting millions of views by pretending to sleep on TikTok?Good question. The answer is simple: because I’m George W.Bush.
But let me back up a bit, because this story starts in a pretty unlikely place for an elderly man with white hair—I’m talking about TikTok.
I first heard about TikTok from my social media manager, Alex Rodriguez.
He’s a tech-savvy guy who helps me keep up with all the latest trends, whether it’s for my book club or my presidential library.
He suggested I sign up and start posting videos as a way to stay relevant and keep in touch with the public.
I was skeptical at first.
I mean, it’s called TikTok.
Hell, at first, I thought it was called Tick Tock, like a clock.
And then when I found out it was an app for making short, funny videos, I was even more skeptical—because that sounded like something for young whippersnappers, not elderly men with white hair who used to be president.
But Alex assured me it wasn’t just for young people, and that it would be a great way for me to reach new audiences.
So after talking it over with some friends, we decided to give it a try.
