I was a WWE wrestler.
I was the first and only female member of The Shield.
I was the little sister of Seth Rollins.
I was the ex-girlfriend of Dean Ambrose.
I was the former best friend of Roman Reigns.
And I was the former girlfriend of all three men at some point in my WWE career.
But most importantly, I was Genny Rollins, a former WWE wrestler who was forced into retirement after The Shield turned on me and put me through a table, which caused me to tear my ACL and have to have surgery.
After I had surgery, I decided to move back to Dallas to start my life over.
While I was in the hospital, I met a man who would become my personal trainer and my boyfriend.
His name is Kerry von Erich, son of Cowboy Bob von Erich.
He and his family would become like a second family to me.
Kerry von Erich is a former WWE wrestler himself, and he knew exactly what I needed to get back on my feet after having knee surgery.
With his help and support, I got back on my feet literally and figuratively.
I was able to walk again without any pain, and I started doing leg presses and squats with weights.
After my morning rehab session, Kerry suggested we try some basic wrestling drills.
My heart started racing at the idea.
We cleared a space in his home gym and laid down some practice mats.
Kerry showed me a simple lock-up, and I mirrored his stance, feeling the familiar tension in my muscles.
My reconstructed knee held steady as we circled each other.
When we connected, the old instincts kicked in - head up, core tight, weight distributed evenly.
Kerry nodded approvingly.
"You've still got it, Genny."
I broke the hold and stepped back, a plan forming in my mind.
"Kerry, what if I told you I want to get back into the ring?"
He raised an eyebrow, a mix of surprise and concern crossing his face.
"Genny, are you sure you're ready for that kind of comeback?"
I sit on the practice mat, sweat cooling on my skin as Kerry's question hangs in the air.
My fingers unconsciously trace the surgical scar on my knee, a reminder of what I've been through.
The smell of leather and canvas fills the empty gym, a familiar scent that brings both comfort and nerves.
I push myself to standing, testing my weight on the repaired joint.
Kerry watches silently, his arms crossed but his expression open.
I walk the perimeter of the mat, each step deliberate, feeling the strength return to my legs.
Finally, I turn to face him.
"The Shield took something from me," I say, my voice steady.
"I need to take it back."
Kerry's eyes narrow with understanding, his voice low and serious.
"You mean that night in Chicago, don't you?"
I nod, the memory of the betrayal still fresh in my mind.
During a water break, Kerry walks to the corner to grab our bottles while I stretch near the ropes.
The afternoon sun streams through the high windows, casting long shadows across the practice mats.
A sudden draft sweeps through the gym, making the ropes sway slightly.
The fluorescent lights above us start to flicker, creating an unsettling strobe effect.
I pause mid-stretch, my muscles tensing as I notice movement by the entrance.
The metal door creaks open slowly.
Kerry turns at the sound, water bottles forgotten in his hands.
My heart pounds as a dark silhouette fills the doorway, backlit by the setting sun.
The shadowy figure takes a step forward, and I instinctively shift into a defensive stance.
Kerry's eyes flick between me and the intruder, his shoulders squared.
The figure moves further into the gym, but the flickering lights make it impossible to discern any features.
I grip the ropes tightly, ready to jump out of the ring if necessary.
Kerry sets the water bottles down and walks calmly toward the stranger.
"Can we help you?" he asks, his voice steady but cautious.
The figure doesn't respond, its presence filling the room with an air of tension.
The lights continue to strobe, casting eerie shadows on the walls.
Suddenly, one of the bulbs pops loudly, plunging us into darkness.
I hold my breath, listening for any sound that might give away the intruder's intentions.
A few seconds pass before another light flickers back to life, illuminating the stranger's face.
My breath catches in my throat as I recognize him - Lance Cade, an old friend from my WWE days. Lance stands there, dressed in street clothes rather than his usual ring gear.
His dark hair is shorter than I remember, and his expression is more serious than his usual charming smile.
He looks like he's been through a lot since I last saw him.
Kerry steps forward protectively, positioning himself between Lance and me.
Lance raises his hands in mock surrender, a hint of his familiar smirk returning to his lips.
"Hey, hey, no need for that," he says casually, though there's a hint of tension in his voice.
"I'm not here to cause trouble."
I exhale slowly and nod at Kerry to stand down.
He hesitates for a moment before stepping aside but remains close by.
Lance approaches us cautiously, his boots echoing on the gym floor.
"Genny," he says softly, using my nickname from our time together in WWE.
"It's been a long time."
I nod warily, unsure what to make of this unexpected visit.
"What brings you here?"
Lance shrugs nonchalantly but can't hide the underlying intensity in his eyes.
"I heard through the grapevine that you were training again," he explains, glancing at Kerry briefly before focusing on me once more. "Seth told me you were getting back into shape."
At the mention of my brother's name, my stomach tightens with a mix of anger and sadness.
I haven't spoken to Seth since that fateful night when The Shield betrayed me and left me broken in Chicago.
Lance shifts uncomfortably, sensing the tension in the air.
"I know things went south back then, but Seth's worried about you," he says, his voice softer now.
Kerry glances at me, his eyes questioning as he asks, "Is this about making amends or something more?"
