Tails of Transformation: A Mermaid's Secret
Scenario:A young woman, who is a marine biologist, is studying DNA sequencing of fish. One of her experiments goes wrong, and she accidentally injects fish DNA into her body. As the fish DNA begin to merge with her own, she gains the ability to grow a fish tail whenever she gets wet. She is a mermaid! None of her colleagues know of the accident and assume the experiment went well.

I stared at the syringe in my hand, containing the DNA of a fish, and shuddered.
What if this worked?
What if I did become a mermaid?
I shook my head.
I was being stupid.
This was just an experiment, and even if it did work, I wouldn't actually become a mermaid.
I was just going to sequence the genome of this fish and see what we could learn from it.
But what if it did work?
What if I did become a mermaid?
I pushed those thoughts out of my head and looked around my lab at the oceanographic institute.
My colleagues were all working, some looking through microscopes, some working on computers, some standing at lab benches like me.
I glanced over at Dr. Mark Jensen, my senior researcher and mentor.
He was one of the few people who knew that I was working on this project.
Most of my colleagues thought I was just working on sequencing the genome of a fish, which was true.
