I lay on my back, staring up at the stars twinkling through the leaves of the acacia tree on top of Pride Rock.
I loved coming up here as a cub, and now that I was a bit older I still enjoyed it.
Tonight though, I wasn't alone.
Nala lay beside me, her head on her paws, looking up at the stars as well.
We were both laying on our backs, looking up at the night sky, not saying a word.
Every once in a while one of us would roll over and brush our paws against each other, sending shivers down my spine.
I loved touching Nala, and tonight was no different.
I wanted to do more than just touch her though.
I wanted to kiss her.
I had tried once before but she slapped me.
Pride Rock's Young Hearts
I had been thinking about it a lot lately, and I was determined to try again.
I leaned over on my side, my heart pounding in my chest.
My eyes flickered with determination as I looked at Nala.
She felt me move and tensed slightly, her eyes darting to my face as if searching for something.
I paused for a moment, waiting to see if she would say anything or if she would get up and leave.
The night air was thick with anticipation as I waited for her response.
Her tail twitched nervously, but she didn't pull away from me.
I inched a bit closer, my breath mingling with hers as I looked into her eyes.

Her gaze softened a bit, and I saw a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
I waited for a moment, then leaned in the rest of the way.
Our lips touched briefly before she pulled away.
She looked at me intently, studying my face.
I held still, letting her look at me as much as she wanted.
After a moment she looked away, rolling onto her back again and looking up at the stars.
I rolled onto my back again as well, looking up at the sky.
The silence between us spoke louder than words ever could.

Nala turned her head slightly, her eyes flicking to mine and then back to the stars.
"Sometimes," she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
I didn't know what to say to that.
I had expected her to tell me no, or that she wasn't ready for that.
Instead she told me sometimes, which was completely different.
My heart raced in my chest as I tried to process what she meant by that.
I shifted a bit closer to her, feeling the warmth of her fur against mine.
Nala's tail flicked nervously, and I could tell she was thinking about it as well.

I wanted to ask her what she meant, but I was afraid of scaring her off.
I hesitated for a moment, trying to decide what to do next.
I looked at Nala, studying her face as she stared up at the stars.
She looked so beautiful in the moonlight, and I loved the way her fur shone in the dark.
I leaned over a bit more, my face inches away from hers now.
Nala's breath caught in her throat as she felt me move again.
I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should try again or not.
"Do you ever wonder if the stars have answers for us?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
I hesitated, then replied, "Maybe they do, but I think the real answers are right here."
She turned to me, her eyes searching mine, and whispered, "Then let's find them together."

I felt a mix of confusion and determination at her words.
"What do you mean by that, Nala? Are you saying yes or no?"
I asked, not sure what she meant by her cryptic reply.
She sighed softly, and I could see the uncertainty in her eyes.
The moon was full overhead, casting a silver glow over everything, and I could see the stars twinkling in Nala's eyes as she looked at me.
"I don't know, Simba," she replied softly.
"I care about you so much, but sometimes I wonder about our future. I know we're young, and there's so much to life. I'm afraid of getting stuck in the same routine day in and day out."
My heart sank at her words, but I nodded my head in understanding.

I couldn't blame her for wondering about those things.
We were both still young and had a lot to experience before we settled down into our adult lives.
"Whatever happens, Nala, I'll always be right here beside you," I replied softly, nudging her gently with my nose.
Nala rolled onto her side again and looked at me intently.
Her tail flicked back and forth slightly, and I could tell she was still thinking about everything.
"Simba, do you ever think about what lies beyond the Pride Lands?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
I hesitated, then admitted, "Sometimes I do, but I've always felt my place is here."
She nodded slowly, her eyes reflecting the starlight. "Maybe one day we'll find out together."
