I survived the procedure.
Those damn yokai cells are inside me, waiting to be unleashed.
I was too young to remember much of that day, but I do recall the screams and cries from the other kids as they were taken away.
Those who didn't survive were left as husks—human bodies turned into mindless, flesh-eating monsters.
The scientists dumped their bodies in the sewers beneath the city.
I remember the stench of decaying flesh and my own terror as I realized what was happening.
I was too young to understand what it all meant, but I knew I was alone again.
No parents.
No home.
Just a cage and that awful smell.
Now at 19, I'm one of the five remnants who survived that fateful day.
We each possess a unique weapon created from those monstrous cells that were injected into us.
These weapons can transform and grant us incredible abilities.
But I'm different from the others.
I don't have the special gene they look for in children.
That gene is what allows our bodies to merge with the yokai cells in a way that enhances our abilities and creates a symbiosis with our weapons.
Without it, my connection to my weapon is limited, and I can't transform like the others.
Remnant's Rebellion
I stand in the dimly lit training room, surrounded by the echoes of past battles.
My weapon, a sleek blade that hums with dormant power, feels heavy in my hand.
Sweat drips down my brow as I swing it in precise arcs, each movement deliberate and controlled.
The room is silent except for the rhythmic sound of my breathing.
Despite the absence of the special gene, I push myself relentlessly, determined to unlock the hidden potential within my weapon.
My muscles ache, but I continue, eyes fixed and unwavering.
Remnant's Rebellion
The blade slices through the air, each swing a testament to my unyielding determination.
The room echoes with the sound of metal cutting through silence, a symphony of discipline and focus.
My muscles burn, but I refuse to relent, fueled by a fire that burns within me.
Suddenly, the door creaks open, and Alex steps into the room.
Their eyes lock onto me, scrutinizing every movement with an intensity that makes my skin prickle.
I hesitate, lowering my weapon slightly, curiosity piqued by their unexpected presence.
Alex approaches cautiously, their expression unreadable.
"You're pushing yourself hard," they remark, voice steady yet carrying an undertone of challenge.
I nod, wiping sweat from my brow.
"I'm ready to prove them all wrong."
I pause mid-swing, the blade's edge glinting under the dim lights.
Alex draws closer, their gaze sweeping over my form with an unspoken assessment.
"You're pushing yourself hard," they repeat, voice unwavering.
I lower the blade, muscles tense from exertion.
"I have to," I reply, determination etched in my words.
Alex studies me for a moment longer before reaching into their pocket and pulling out a small device.
"This might help," they offer, extending it towards me.
I hesitate, eyeing the device warily before accepting it.
As I examine the tool in my hand, Alex explains its purpose: a device designed to enhance our training sessions, pushing us to our limits and beyond.
With a nod of gratitude, I activate the device, ready to confront whatever challenges lie ahead.
