It's been five years since my journey as an alchemist began.
I, Edward Elric, and my brother Alphonse lost our bodies in the attempt to bring our mother back to life using alchemy beyond our control.
We can't use alchemy without losing parts of our bodies because we don't have the luxury of having a physical body that can handle the strain of magical energy.
My brother now lives as a soul bound to a suit of armor while I lost my left leg and left arm.
Ever since then, we've been searching for the Philosopher's Stone to regain our original bodies and limbs.
The Philosopher's Stone is said to have the power to grant any wish.
It is also known as the "Stone of Heaven" or "Stone of Dreams".
Its existence is merely a legend, but we believe that it is real and that it will save us from this miserable life.
In order to find more clues about the Philosopher's Stone, we decided to visit the kingdom of Xerxes.
A man named Mortersson worked as an alchemist for King Xerxes and was said to be very knowledgeable about the Philosopher's Stone.
He might be able to tell us where we can find it.
When we arrived at the kingdom of Xerxes, we were immediately stopped by the guards at the entrance of the palace.

I watch as Alphonse walks up to the palace guards, waving his spectral arms and speaking in an unnaturally cheerful voice.
The guards' eyes widen at his ghostly appearance, their attention completely captured by his ethereal form.
While they're distracted by his elaborate story about being a traveling performer, I press myself against the cold stone wall, inching sideways through the shadows.
My automail leg creaks softly with each step, making me freeze momentarily.
The guards continue questioning Alphonse about his unusual appearance, giving me the chance to slip through the servant's entrance.

I edge along the servant's corridor, my automail leg clicking softly against the stone floor.
The kitchen smells waft through the air - fresh bread and roasted meat - making my stomach growl.
As I round the corner toward the alchemists' wing, a black shape darts between my feet.
I stumble, catching myself against the wall.
A sleek cat with unusual violet eyes sits before me, its tail swishing methodically.

"The stone you seek lies beneath the king's own feet," it purrs in a distinctly human voice.
I blink hard, wondering if the kitchen fumes are making me hallucinate.
