"Hey, Snowy! What are you doing?"
I asked my best friend, who was hiding behind the shelves.
"Shh! Quiet, Biscuit! I don't want to be caught," she replied.
"What's going on? What are you doing?"
I asked again.
"I am looking for something," she said.
"What is it?"
I asked again.
"Something sweet," she said.
"You will get cavities if you keep eating sweets," I said.
"I don't care! I love sweets," she said.
Then she found a jar of candy and smiled.
"Yay! I got it!"
She opened the jar and took out a handful of candies and put them in her mouth.
"Mmm... Delicious!"
She swallowed the candies and then she looked at me with a mischievous smile.
"Hey, Biscuit! Let's go get some more sweets," she said.
"Where?"
I asked.
"In the kitchen," she said.
"We can't go there! We will get in trouble if we do," I said.
"We won't get in trouble if we sneak in," she said.
"Sneak in? Are you crazy? That's impossible!" I said.
"Come on, let's go," she said.
She pulled me along with her to the kitchen.
We sneaked into the kitchen quietly and found some cookies on the table.
Fluffy
I froze in place as Snowy frantically grabbed more cookies, stuffing them into her cheeks.
The footsteps grew louder, accompanied by the jingling of keys.
I spotted a small gap between the refrigerator and wall, just wide enough for us to squeeze through.
Grabbing Snowy's paw, I pulled her toward the hiding spot, but she resisted, reaching for one last cookie on the counter.
The door handle started to turn.
Fluffy
Snowy finally gave in and followed me.
We pressed ourselves into the dark space, holding our breath as the kitchen lights flicked on.
My heart pounded in my chest as the light flooded our hiding spot.
Snowy kept munching on the cookie, crumbs falling everywhere.
I frantically tugged on her sleeve, trying to get her to stop, but she was determined to finish the treat.
The person's heavy footsteps echoed through the kitchen, growing closer and closer to the refrigerator.
Through the small gap, I could see a pair of black shoes stopping just inches from our hiding spot.
Snowy finally swallowed the last bite of the cookie, but then let out a tiny sneeze from the dust that had accumulated in the gap.
The shoes suddenly pivoted sharply toward our hiding spot.
I clamped my paw over Snowy's nose, but it was too late.
"Who's there?" a deep voice demanded, crouching down to peer into the gap.
Snowy whispered urgently, "It's Mr. Whiskers! He can't find us here!"
Fluffy
I nodded, whispering back, "We need a distraction, or we're toast!"
The refrigerator's vibrations shook loose some dust, making my nose twitch.
I pressed myself flat against the wall, pulling Snowy closer as the humming grew louder.
Cookie crumbs fell from her whiskers onto the floor, forming a small pile that could give us away.
Mr. Whiskers' shoes pivoted, his shadow stretching across our hiding spot as the refrigerator's noise drew his attention.
Snowy started to fidget, clearly wanting to brush away the crumbs, but I gripped her paw tightly to keep her still.
Fluffy
I spotted a full milk jug on the counter above us through a gap behind the fridge.
Carefully reaching up, I poked Snowy and pointed to it.
She understood immediately, her eyes lighting up despite her mouth still full of cookie.
As Mr. Whiskers leaned down closer to our hiding spot, I gave Snowy a boost.
She stretched her paw through the gap, straining to reach the jug.
Fluffy
Her claws scraped against the plastic, inching it forward bit by bit until it teetered on the edge.
I braced myself as Snowy's final nudge sent the milk jug wobbling.
Time seemed to slow as the container teetered on the edge, then plummeted.
The jug hit the floor with a sharp crack, its lid bursting off.
White liquid exploded across the linoleum in a growing puddle.
Mr. Whiskers let out a startled yell and jumped back, his shoes squeaking on the wet floor.
Fluffy
His footsteps hurried away from our hiding spot toward the spill.
Snowy whispered excitedly, "Now's our chance, let's make a run for it!"
I nodded, glancing at the open door, "But where do we go? He'll be back any second."
Snowy grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief, "To the attic—I've got a plan that'll keep him busy for hours!"
Snowy led the way up the creaky wooden stairs, her flashlight shaking in her paws as she held it.
Dust made my nose twitch as we squeezed through the narrow entrance to the attic.
The air was stale and thick with the smell of old boxes and forgotten memories.
Shadows stretched across the room, forming dark shapes that could easily hide secrets.
While searching for a good hiding spot, I bumped into something hard, knocking over a shelf in the process.
A leather-bound book fell to the floor with a thud, its cover creaking open.
Yellowed pages filled with Mr. Whiskers' messy handwriting stared up at me.
Snowy snatched it up quickly, her eyes widening as she read through the entries.
"Look at this," she whispered, "It's his diary."
I leaned closer, curiosity getting the better of me.
Fluffy
Fluffy
The pages were filled with strange formulas and notes about test subjects.
"It looks like he's been experimenting on some of his patients," Snowy said, her voice filled with concern.
Suddenly, we heard footsteps coming from below.
