I was never really a normal kid.
I mean, sure, I went to school, had friends, got average grades, and liked playing video games.
But my life was never the same after my mom's murder.
I was only eleven when it happened, and I was the only witness.
The thing is... I didn't see or hear the person who did it.
I know it sounds crazy, but I'm positive it wasn't my dad who killed her.
The police and the DA didn't believe me, and my dad was put in prison.
I was never really able to convince anyone else of what I knew, either.
My life got even harder after that.
Kids at school bullied me about how my dad was a murderer, and they even called me a liar.
You’d think the teachers would do something about it, but they didn’t.
I tried to tell them what really happened, but no one believed me.
Not even my school counselor.
It got to the point where I just wanted to run away.
I didn’t know what to do, or how to make it all stop.
Flashpoint
I sit at my desk, staring out the window as lightning flashes across the darkened sky.
The storm has been building all day, and now the rain pounds against the glass like angry fists.
My homework lies forgotten in front of me as another crack of thunder makes me jump.
I can't help but remember that night - the night my mom died - when strange lightning filled our living room.
A particularly bright flash illuminates my reflection in the window, and for a moment, I think I see something impossible behind me.
Flashpoint
I spin around in my chair, my heart racing, but my room is empty.
"Did you see it too?" a voice whispers from the shadows, startling me.
I squint into the dim corner, recognizing the familiar figure of my older brother, Alex.
"You mean the lightning?" I ask, my voice barely steady.
"I mean the shape," he replies, his voice low and serious.
"It was right behind you, rippling like water."
I turn back to the window, my hands gripping the edge of my desk as I stare at my reflection.
And then I see it - a strange distortion in the glass, like a ripple on the surface of a pond.
It's faint, but unmistakable.
Another flash of lightning illuminates the room, and I see it again - a dark shape looming behind me.
I spin around, but there's no one there.
My heart is pounding in my chest as I turn back to Alex.
"Did you see that?" he asks, his face pale in the flickering light.
"It was just like what I saw that night," he adds, his voice barely above a whisper.
Flashpoint
I nod slowly, my mind racing with memories of that terrible evening.
The swirling air around Mom, the impossible speeds, the yellow electricity crackling in the air.
It was all so surreal, so impossible.
But I know what I saw, and now Alex has seen it too. Another flash of lightning illuminates the room, and I see it again - the dark shape looming behind me in the window's reflection.
It's closer this time, and I can make out more details - a tall figure with long hair and glowing eyes.
I gasp in shock as another crack of thunder booms outside.
The storm is getting worse by the minute, and I can feel its energy building inside me.
I'm not sure what's happening to me, but I know it's connected to that night - to Mom's murder and whatever supernatural force was responsible for it.
Suddenly, there's a loud crash from outside, followed by another flash of lightning.
I turn to look out the window just in time to see a dark figure darting between houses across the street.
It moves faster than any human could, leaving behind a trail of yellow lightning that crackles and flashes in its wake. My heart is racing as I watch the figure disappear into the darkness.
I can feel its power coursing through me like electricity, and I know that whatever it is, it's coming for us. "Alex," I whisper urgently as he grabs my arm and pulls me away from the window.
"We have to get out of here," he says firmly as he leads me towards the door.
"But where do we go?" I ask, panic rising in my voice.
"To the old cabin in the woods," Alex replies, his eyes filled with determination.
Flashpoint
"It's the only place they won't find us," he adds, glancing nervously back at the window.
