The news that 12,000 North Korean soldiers could be sent to Ukraine hit me hard.
Not because I was afraid of the impact it would have on the outcome of the war.
Rather, because I was one of those 12,000 soldiers.
And I had no intention of going to Ukraine to fight.
I was a captain in the North Korean Special Forces, and I had just made friends with a small group of fellow soldiers.
We were an odd bunch.
First, there was me.
I stood out because of my height.
I was one of the tallest in the unit.
My sharp features also made me look different.
But I was a stickler for discipline.
I followed every order to the letter, no matter how ridiculous it seemed.
This made me a pain in the ass to be around sometimes, but my ability to come up with a strategy to get us out of any situation made me a valuable asset.
Next, was Jung.
He came from a family that had served the regime for generations.
As such, he felt that everyone owed him something.
He constantly whined about how unfair life was, but when it came down to it, he would do whatever it took to get the job done.
That included taking a bullet for any one of us.
