I was taking a shower after my gym class, and I was the only one in the bathroom.
Well, at least I thought I was the only one.
As I turned around, I saw two girls taking a shower next to me.
One of them was Samantha, the girl who had become my classmate just a few weeks ago.
She was a cheerleader and one of the most popular girls in school.
The other girl was her friend, but I didn't know her name.
They were laughing and talking, and they didn't even notice me standing there.
I felt so embarrassed, I wanted to disappear.
I didn't want them to see me and especially not Samantha.
She made fun of me in class all the time.
I tried to ignore them and attempted to leave, but my feet were stuck to the floor.
I couldn't move.
Suddenly, Samantha looked at me and our eyes met for a second.
She smiled and looked away immediately.
I thought she didn't see me, but then I heard her whispering to her friend.
"Is that girl taking a shower?"
Her friend looked around and nodded.
"Yeah, I think so."
Samantha shook her head.
"I don't know how someone that fat can fit in here."
Her friend laughed and said, "I know right? It's hard to imagine someone like that existing in this world."
I felt like crying, but I held back my tears.

I clench my fists under the spray of water, watching as droplets roll down my arms.
An unexpected surge of anger replaces the humiliation I feel.
My mouth opens before I can stop myself.
"Want to join?"
I call out, my voice echoing off the tile walls.
Samantha and her friend stop mid-conversation, turning to stare at me with wide eyes.
The shower continues running, filling the awkward silence that follows.
Samantha exchanges a glance with her friend, then to my horror, they both nod.
"Sure," Samantha says, stepping closer to my shower stall.
"Move over."
Fat Chance
I step aside, my heart pounding in my chest.
Samantha leans in, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You know, I only say those things because I'm jealous."
I stand under the spray, water dripping down my face as I stare at her, trying to make sense of her words.
The steam rises between us while her friend hovers uncertainly by the door.
My hands tremble as I grip my washcloth tighter, gathering the courage to speak.
The question burns in my throat until I can't hold it back anymore.
"Why would you be jealous of me?"
Fat Chance
I ask, my voice barely audible over the running water.
Samantha shifts her weight from one foot to the other, her usual confidence cracking.
She glances at her friend, then back to me, her mascara starting to run slightly from the humidity.
