It was a quiet night when I saw him.
A night that I never thought would change my life forever.
That night I was with my friends at the bar.
When suddenly I locked my eyes with none other than Kyle Carter, the man I hate the most.
The last person on earth I would ever want to see.
And the very last person to whom I'd even utter a word.
But little did I know that the next words I would be saying to him would change everything..
"Look who's here. Isn't he that asshole?"
Jessica heard me whispering.
I was with her and Samantha at the bar having some drinks.
When suddenly I felt my eyes locking with none other than Kyle Carter himself.
The very man I hate the most in this world.
I don't know what made him show up here but the very thought of him coming here made my blood boil.
Falling for My Hater
I gripped my glass tighter, watching him from the other end of the bar.
He was standing there with his business associates.
They were all dressed in their suits and ties.
Kyle was laughing at something one of them had said.
I narrowed my eyes at him, watching him as he continued to mingle with his business associates.
"Hey, you okay?"
Jessica nudged me with her elbow, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just go."
I looked at her, suggesting we leave.
But something was keeping me rooted to my seat.
Falling for My Hater
The bourbon burned my throat as I downed it in one gulp.
Gathering liquid courage before I made my way over to him.
My heels clicked against the hardwood floor as I slid off the barstool.
"Nicole, don't."
I heard Sam's worried voice but ignored it as I made my way over to Kyle.
Falling for My Hater
I straightened out my black dress and ran a hand through my hair.
Putting on the perfect fake smile before coming to a stop right in front of him. His eyes found mine before I even reached him and his conversation trailed off mid-sentence.
The chatter of the bar faded away as I came to a stop in front of him.
His business associates watched me, their eyes lingering on my body before coming to a stop at my face.
They parted from their circle, creating a bubble of space around us.
Kyle's eyes were wide with surprise, and his lips were parted.
But that look soon came to a stop as the smirk I remembered all too well from high school formed on his lips.
"Excuse me, gentlemen. I'll be right back."
He bowed out of the circle of his business associates and adjusted the jacket of his suit before turning to face me fully.
I could feel the eyes of Jessica and Samantha on me from our table behind me.
My palms were sweaty and I had to swallow down the acid that was rising up my throat.
My speech, which had sounded so perfect in my head when I rehearsed it in the mirror this morning, suddenly sounded ridiculous now.
Falling for My Hater
Opening my mouth, I took a deep breath before letting it out slowly.
"Kyle, I need to know why you left without a word that night," I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
His smirk faltered, replaced by a flicker of something unreadable. "Nicole, it's not what you think. There's more to it than you know."
He stepped closer, his cologne filling my senses.
The noise of the bar faded away, leaving only the sound of his voice.
His eyes darkened, and he took another step closer.
I could feel the heat radiating off him, and I had to fight the urge to step back.
"Then tell me," I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
Falling for My Hater
He reached out and took my hand in his, his touch sending electricity through my body.
I tried to pull away, but his grip was firm yet gentle.
He guided me away from the crowded bar area toward a quieter corner, his thumb tracing circles on my wrist.
My heart pounded in my chest, and I could feel my pulse racing.
I leaned against the wall in our secluded corner, the alcohol from earlier clouding my judgment.
His words became a distant hum as I stared at his perfectly knotted silk tie.
He always dressed impeccably, even in high school.
My fingers twitched with the overwhelming urge to grab it, to pull him closer, to show him I wasn't the same timid girl from before.
The bourbon emboldened me, and before I could stop myself, my hand shot out, gripping his tie just below the knot.
Falling for My Hater
His explanation cut off mid-sentence, his eyes widening at my sudden boldness.
I released his tie and stepped back, my heart pounding in my chest as I realized what I had just done.
The warmth of the bourbon coursed through me, making me feel reckless and alive.
His eyes darkened as I nodded toward the exit, and he placed a hand on the small of my back, guiding me through the crowded bar.
I caught Jessica's concerned look as we passed our table, but I waved her off with a quick flick of my wrist, not wanting to draw any more attention to myself than I already had.
The cool night air hit me like a slap in the face as we stepped out of the bar, but Kyle's hand remained steady against my back.
Falling for My Hater
We walked in silence toward the parking lot, our footsteps echoing off the pavement.
He opened the door to his sleek black car, and I slid into the leather seat, my dress riding up slightly as I settled in.
The drive was silent except for the purr of his luxury vehicle's engine, and I couldn't help but steal glances at him as he drove.
His jaw was clenched, and his knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel.
I could feel where his hand had brushed mine earlier, and my skin tingled with the memory of his touch.
We pulled into an underground parking garage beneath a high-rise apartment building, and Kyle cut the engine.
He stepped out of the car, opening my door and offering me a hand up.
I took it, feeling a rush of electricity at his touch.
We rode the elevator in silence, standing inches apart as we waited for it to reach his floor.
The tension between us was palpable, and I could feel the air crackling with anticipation.
When the doors opened, Kyle took my hand once more, leading me down a carpeted hallway toward his door.
Falling for My Hater
He paused at the door, his hand hovering over the handle.
"There's something you need to know before we go any further," he said, his voice low and serious.
I met his gaze, my heart skipping a beat. "What is it, Kyle?"
He took a deep breath, his eyes searching mine.
"I'm not the man you think I am."
I followed him into his dimly lit apartment, my heels clicking on the hardwood floors.
The space was modern and sleek, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a breathtaking view of the city below.
Kyle guided me to a leather couch in the living room, but instead of sitting beside me, he paced in front of the windows, loosening his tie.
Falling for My Hater
The city lights cast shadows across his face as he stared out into the night, his hands resting on his hips.
I waited for him to speak, my fingers digging into the cool leather beneath me.
When he finally turned to face me, his usual confidence was gone.
I rose from the couch and walked toward him, my heels clicking against his hardwood floor.
He watched me approach, his eyes searching mine in the dim light.
When I reached him, I placed my hand on his chest, feeling his heart pounding beneath his expensive shirt.
The city lights twinkled behind us as I pressed closer, eliminating the space between our bodies.
Kyle's breath caught in his throat, his hands hovering at my waist without touching.
Falling for My Hater
I slid my hand up to his neck, pulling his face down to mine.
"Kyle," I whispered, my voice barely audible, "what are you hiding from me?"
He hesitated, his eyes flickering with a mix of fear and determination.
"I'm not just some businessman; I'm involved in something dangerous, and now you're part of it too."
I stared at his lips as he spoke, the words hanging in the air between us.
The city lights cast shadows across his face, and I could feel the tension in his body as he gripped my waist.
My hand slid from his neck to his jaw, feeling the tension there.
His breath quickened against my skin, and his eyes darkened with desire.
The rational part of my mind screamed at me to step back, to demand more answers about what he meant by danger.
But my body had other plans.
I pressed closer, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Kyle, you have to tell me everything now."
He closed his eyes briefly, as if gathering courage.
"Alright, but once you know, there's no turning back."
