Sawyer, a distillery owner in a quaint Alaskan village, becomes intrigued by a enigmatic woman who has recently arrived and plans to open an art gallery next to his business, causing tension between him and his business partner/brother who wanted to buy the empty building, while Sawyer navigates local rumors and assumptions concerning his romantic relationships, all while wondering if the new resident will be able to adapt to life in Oceanview Harbor.
I am Sawyer Thompson and the proud owner of Harbor Light Distillery, a thriving business in Oceanview Harbor, Alaska.
My dad was a commercial fisherman and he used to tell me that there was nothing better than being out on the Bering Sea.
He also had a deep passion for whiskey, which was passed on to me.
The Northern Lights had a way of getting into his blood and one night, as he sat on the deck of our house watching the aurora borealis dance across the sky, he decided that he wanted to create a whiskey that would capture the magic of that moment.
He started making homemade whiskey in small-batches and it wasn’t long before his friends wanted to know if they could buy it.
What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a business and he named his distillery Harbor Light after the Northern Lights that had inspired him.
We’re the only distillery in Oceanview Harbor, but we make up for it in our size.
I wouldn’t consider us small by any means.
There’s room for growth and I have big plans for the future.
Oceanview Harbor, Alaska is a small village and is a popular destination for tourists who are looking for a taste of Alaskan culture and spirits.
We’re located on the waterfront right in the heart of the village and have a deck with breathtaking views of the harbor and mountains.
We draw in both tourists and locals looking to sample our spirits and enjoy the view.
We’ve been open for almost two years now and have quickly become known as the place to go if you’re looking for excellent spirits and a gorgeous view.
I can’t take all the credit for that though; my brother Liam is also an owner.
He’s ambitious, competitive, and driven.
We’ve always been close and I wouldn’t rather partner with anyone else.
Our distillery includes a large tasting room complete with a stone fireplace, high wood beam ceilings with skylights, and an expansive deck overlooking the harbor.
We offer tours, which are really popular, especially during the summer months when we have nearly twenty hours of daylight.
From the deck you can see an awesome view of Oceanview Harbor and Lost Mountain in the Chugach National Forest.
The deck has a covered awning which is great when it rains and it also includes heat lamps for those cold Alaska nights when you want to sit outside and enjoy the sunset or watch the fishing boats come in.
The interior of the tasting room is equally as impressive with its custom-built walnut bar and stools, cedar walls, and polished concrete floors that really give it an industrial look.
We get a lot of compliments on our décor and I’m proud of what we’ve created here and all that we have accomplished in a relatively short amount of time.
