I was walking in my shorts, shirt, and brickstock sandals when I had reached the house.
"Hey," I said while walking in.
Jen was sitting on the couch with her feet up and her arm resting on the arm rest.
"Hey."
Jen looked over at me and smiled.
"How was your day?" I asked while walking over and sitting next to her.
"It was good," she said while letting out a breath.
"Did you eat?" she asked while looking at me.
I shook my head no.
"I haven’t had time," I said while putting my feet on the coffee table.
Jen got up and walked to the kitchen.
She brought back a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, a breadstick, and a salad, along with a glass of pop.
"Thanks."
I took a bite of the breadstick and smiled.
Jen sat back down next to me and we talked until Timmy came in and sat on my feet.
He looked up at me with a smile on his face.
"Hey," I said while putting my hand on his head.
Timmy looked up at me and demanded to be picked up.
I reached down and picked him up, placing him on my bare belly.
He sat there looking at me with a big smile on his face before he reached up and laid his hands on my face.
Every Boy's Lament
I could see him getting excited as he started to pat my cheeks with his small hands.
I knew what he wanted, so I shifted my position and laid flat on the carpeted floor.
Timmy climbed off of me and sat next to me, watching as I raised my feet in the air.
I moved them up and down before I motioned for Timmy to come closer.
He climbed onto my feet, straddling my ankles with his small body.
Every Boy's Lament
I held him steady as I straightened my legs, lifting him higher into the air.
Timmy spread his arms out wide and giggled as he pretended to fly.
House lifted his head from where he was laying in his bed in the corner of the room, watching us play our familiar game.
After our airplane game, I lowered Timmy back to the ground.
My legs were tired but happy from his squeals of delight.
Timmy rolled off of my feet and sat up, his eyes bright with excitement.
He looked over at the couch and saw his blue blanket draped over the back.
He climbed to his feet and walked over to the couch, pulling the blanket down onto the floor.
Every Boy's Lament
He grabbed one end of it and wrapped it around his small shoulders, the fabric trailing behind him like a cape.
Standing in the middle of the room, he puffed out his chest and planted his hands on his hips.
House lifted his head from his bed, his ears perking up as he watched Timmy move around.
