I was born in 1879.
And I’m still in high school.
I know what you’re thinking: I must be a vampire.
But I’m not a vampire.
I’m a cloud.
A vampire cloud, to be exact.
You’ve probably never heard of us, and that’s because we’re very rare and very secretive.
We’re born as clouds, but we can take on human form when we reach the age of sixteen, which is when we stop aging and become immortal.
We have all the powers of a vampire—super strength, super speed, the ability to fly—except we can’t turn into bats or drink blood or any of that other cool stuff vampires can do.
And we can’t go out in the sun because it would evaporate us and kill us for good.
So yeah, being a vampire cloud kind of sucks.
But it’s not all bad.
We have some pretty cool powers of our own, like the ability to control the weather and make it rain whenever we want (which is great for when you want to get out of going to school).
The average life span of a vampire cloud is about two hundred years.
But I’m already 142, and I’m still going strong.
Even though I’m over a century old, I still look like a teenager.
That’s because I transformed into my human form when I was sixteen, and I’ve been stuck that way ever since.
At first, it was kind of tough getting used to being a teenager in high school again, especially since I’d gone to high school over a hundred years ago.
But I quickly got the hang of it, and now it feels like this is just the way things have always been.
I go to school like any other normal teenage girl, and for most of the day, you wouldn’t even know that I’m a cloud (unless it’s raining or something).
But there are some things that are different about me and that I have to be careful about:
I have to remind myself not to get too wet in the rain or I’ll start to melt.
I have to make sure that I don’t blow away if there’s a strong wind or something.
And I can never, ever go out in the sun.
So far, none of my classmates have found out my secret, and I’d like to keep it that way for as long as possible.
But sometimes I worry that it’s only a matter of time before someone figures me out—like when we have gym outside during the day, and I have to convince my teacher that I’m sick so I don’t have to go out on the field and run laps, which is really annoying because I love running.
Or when the new guy started at our school last year and asked me out on a date—then showed up at my house with flowers and tried to take me out for ice cream on a really hot summer day, which is completely ridiculous because he should have known better than to ask me out on a date during the day in the first place.
(He didn’t know at first, but he did later on.)
Mom and Dad were not happy with him, let me tell you.
Sometimes it can be really tough having to keep my true identity a secret from everyone around me.
One time, when Mia asked me why I never went out in the sun, I told her it was because I was allergic to the sun and would get a really bad rash if I went outside.
Of course, she didn’t believe me at first.
But then I showed her some pictures of when we went on our family vacation to Florida last year and how much of a rash I got from being out in the sun all day—and she believed me then.
Mia’s the only one who knows my true secret besides Alex.
And even though it was kind of scary to tell them at first, it was also really nice to have someone to share it with.
I don’t know what I would do without them.
I love being a cloud.
It’s part of who I am.
I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.
And even though it can be tough sometimes being different from everyone else, it’s also something that makes me special.
And that’s something that no one can ever take away from me.
So yeah, this is my life as a vampire cloud.
And even though it might not always be easy, it’s also pretty great too.
