I once believed I knew what love was.
I thought I understood the word, understood the feeling.
But I was wrong.
So very wrong.
My love for Bella was nothing compared to my love for Amara.
This is the story of how I met my true mate, and lost myself in the process.
Edward
Amara Potter.
The girl who lived.
Witch.
Clumsy, accident-prone, and utterly frustrating at times, but also intelligent, funny, and fascinating.
At first I thought it was because she was different from everyone else I had ever met.
Different from Bella.
I soon came to realize that my fascination with her went far beyond that.
It started with small things.
The way her dark hair caught the sunlight, bringing out red undertones that deepened her complexion further.
The way her green eyes sparkled when she laughed, deepening the flecks of gold within them.
The way her smile deepened her dimples and lit up the entire room.
It only took one glance for me to become completely and utterly entranced by her.
At first I thought it was because she was a mystery to me.
Bella had always been an open book to me, whereas Amara was a puzzle I couldn't resist solving.

As we strolled hand in hand through the bustling streets of Forks, the crisp air filled with the scent of pine and impending rain, I felt an unspoken connection with Amara, our steps synchronized as if guided by an unseen force.
The buildings blurred together, a mix of old and new, as we made our way towards my family's home, the Cullen household.
I sensed a subtle change in the atmosphere, a faint tremor in the air, and my senses heightened, detecting Bella's familiar scent lingering nearby.
A flicker of apprehension crossed my features, and Amara's grip on my hand tightened reassuringly.
We paused at the edge of the clearing, where Bella stood, her eyes locked onto me with a mix of longing and defiance.
Her gaze was like a weight, pressing down on me, but I refused to yield.
I released Amara's hand and stepped forward, my eyes never leaving Bella's.
"What are you doing here, Bella?" I asked, my voice firm but controlled.
Bella's eyes narrowed, her jaw clenched. "I came to see you, Edward. To talk to you."
I raised an eyebrow. "We've said all there is to say, Bella. You know why I left."
Bella took a step forward, her eyes flashing with determination. "No, Edward, we haven't. You left without giving me a chance to explain—"
Amara's hand brushed against mine, a gentle reminder of her presence.

I glanced at her, and our eyes met for a brief moment before I turned back to Bella.
"I don't want to hear it, Bella," I said firmly. "You had your chance. Now it's too late."
Bella's face twisted in anger, her eyes blazing with a fierce intensity.
"You're making a mistake, Edward," she spat. "You'll regret this."
Suddenly, the air was charged with tension, the atmosphere electric with anticipation.
And then, out of nowhere, a loud crash echoed through the clearing, followed by the sound of shattering glass.

The sound of shattering glass echoed in the clearing, drawing my attention back to Amara.
Her eyes met mine, wide with concern.
Bella's anger simmered, her fists clenched at her sides.
I turned to Amara, feeling the urgency to protect her from the chaos.
"We need to go," I said softly, reaching for her hand.
She nodded, trusting me implicitly.
As we moved away from Bella, I could feel her gaze burning into my back, but I didn't falter.
Leading Amara through the dense woods, I focused on putting distance between us and the turmoil left behind.
The trees seemed to close in around us, their branches tangling above our heads like skeletal fingers.
The rustle of leaves and snapping of twigs beneath our feet served as a reminder that we were not alone in this forest.
Amara's hand fit perfectly in mine, her fingers intertwining with mine as if they were meant to be there.
I glanced down at her, her eyes fixed on the path ahead, her brow furrowed in concentration.

The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, a primal smell that stirred something deep within me.
We walked in silence, the only sound being the soft crunch of gravel beneath our feet.
Suddenly, a faint rustling caught my attention, and I froze, my senses on high alert.
Amara's eyes snapped up to mine, questioning.

As we paused in the woods, the rustling grew louder, and I instinctively positioned myself between Amara and the approaching sound.
My eyes scanned the shadows until two familiar figures emerged—Padfoot and Uncle Moony.
Their presence was unexpected yet strangely comforting.
Padfoot's canine form shifted into Sirius Black, his expression a mix of relief and urgency.
Remus Lupin, ever calm, nodded in greeting.
"Edward," Sirius began, his voice steady, "we need to talk."
Amara tightened her grip on my hand, sensing the gravity of their arrival.
I nodded, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation as we prepared to listen.
The trees surrounding us seemed to lean in, as if they too were eager to hear what Sirius had to say.
The air was heavy with anticipation, the only sound being the soft rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.
Sirius's eyes darted between Amara and me, his gaze lingering on our intertwined hands before returning to mine.
"What is it, Sirius?" I asked, my voice low and even.

Sirius hesitated, his eyes flicking towards Remus before focusing on me once more.
"It's about Bella," he said finally, his words dripping with caution.
Amara's grip on my hand tightened further, her eyes locked onto mine with a mixture of concern and curiosity.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as Sirius continued, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"She's not alone, Edward. There are others involved. Others who will stop at nothing to get what they want."
The forest around us seemed to grow darker, the shadows deepening as if they too were listening in on our conversation.
I felt Amara's pulse quicken, her heart racing in time with mine as we stood there, frozen in anticipation.
Amara's voice broke the tense silence, her words laced with determination.
"Who are these others, and what do they want with us?" she demanded, her eyes fierce.
Remus stepped forward, his expression grave. "They're after something powerful, something only you two can protect."
