I was born for this.
Whatever this is.
Before I had even turned one, I was already aware of it all.
I didn’t know what it was, or when it would start, or what it meant.
I just knew that I had been made for something.
That my life wasn’t mine.
That there were plans for me.
And those plans were made before I was even born.
It started with little things.
Things that could be coincidences.
Strangers touching my hand and giving me a jolt of electricity that ran through my body like a wake-up call.
Seeing the same license plate everywhere—on the bus I rode to school, on the car that drove past the ice cream shop where I spent my afternoons, even etched into the wall of the building where my brother worked.
It was B6Z9, and it showed up everywhere until it stopped being weird and became normal.
Then came the strange looks and whispered conversations that stopped whenever I approached.
The feeling that I was being watched and followed, even when I was alone.
The creeping sense of danger that clung to me like a bad cold.
Erebus
I sit in my bedroom, the only light coming from the moon shining through my window.
The room is a mess of papers and old journals, but I don’t care.
I’m too focused on the numbers and letters that taunt me from my notebook.
B6Z9.
I write them again, drawing connecting lines between each character as I try to remember every time I’ve seen this code.
The bus.
The ice cream shop.
Ben’s workplace.
My hand trembles as I sketch a crude map of these locations, trying to find a pattern.
And then it hits me.
Erebus
They form a shape, almost like a constellation.
A message hidden in plain sight.
I stare at the map, trying to decipher its meaning.
And then I see it—a date and time written beneath the pattern.
It’s tomorrow night, at midnight. I feel a chill run down my spine as I realize that this isn’t just some random code.
It’s a warning, or maybe even an invitation.
I don’t know what it means, but I know that I have to find out.
I look out my window, across the street to where Razi is standing in the shadows.
"Razi, do you know what B6Z9 means?" I call out, my voice barely above a whisper.
He steps into the moonlight, his face serious. "It's the coordinates for the meeting place," he replies, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that makes my heart race.
Erebus
"But why me?" I ask, desperation creeping into my voice.
"I don't know, but you have to be careful," he says, his voice low and urgent.
I nod, feeling a mix of fear and curiosity.
I look at the digital clock on my nightstand - 11:30 PM.
The meeting is in just 30 minutes.
I glance back out the window, and Razi is still there, watching over me.
I feel a surge of gratitude towards him.
He's always been there for me, even when things get weird.
But I also feel a twinge of fear.
What if this meeting is dangerous?
What if something bad happens?
Erebus
I shake off the thoughts and focus on the task at hand.
I grab my backpack and stuff it with the essentials - my phone, wallet, and a few snacks.
I also throw in the burner phone that Ben gave me, just in case I need to make any emergency calls. As I zip up my backpack, I hear a noise coming from outside.
I look out the window, and Razi is still there, but he's not alone.
There are two other figures standing next to him, both wearing black hoodies that hide their faces.
They seem to be talking about something, but I can't make out what they're saying.
Suddenly, Razi looks up and sees me watching him through the window.
He nods at me, as if to say "good luck," and then turns back to the other two figures.
I take a deep breath and try to calm my nerves.
I know that I have to be careful, but I also know that I can't ignore this meeting.
I have to find out what's going on and why these strange things keep happening to me. I grab the papers with the coordinates on them and stuff them into my jacket pocket.
I take one last look around my room to make sure that everything is in order, and then head downstairs.
As I walk through the darkened hallway, I hear Father snoring softly in his bedroom down the hall.
It's a comforting sound, but it also makes me feel guilty for sneaking out without telling him where I'm going.
I pause at the front door, take a deep breath, and step into the night, ready to face whatever awaits.
Erebus
I walk down the street, following Razi and the other two figures at a distance.
The autumn air is cool and crisp, carrying the scent of fallen leaves and damp earth.
I pull my jacket tighter around me, feeling the chill of the night on my skin.
As I walk, I check the coordinates again, making sure that I'm heading in the right direction.
The numbers lead me through the winding streets of my neighborhood, past darkened houses and deserted parks.
I follow them until I reach the outskirts of town, where the buildings grow taller and the streets become busier.
I glance up at the clock tower in the distance, its face glowing brightly in the darkness.
It's 11:45 PM - just 15 minutes until midnight.
I quicken my pace, following Razi and the others as they lead me deeper into the heart of the city. The streets are dimly lit, with only a few flickering streetlights to guide us through the darkness.
I stay close behind Razi and his companions, trying to keep up with their rapid pace.
Erebus
We turn down a narrow alleyway, dodging trash cans and leaping over puddles as we make our way through the shadows.
The air grows colder and damper as we walk, carrying the scent of mold and decay.
I shiver despite myself, feeling a chill run down my spine as we approach our destination.
Finally, we reach a large industrial building on the outskirts of town.
It's an old warehouse, its walls covered in graffiti and its windows boarded up with plywood.
Razi and his companions stop at the entrance, looking around cautiously before slipping inside.
I follow them, my heart pounding in my chest as I step into the darkness within. The building is cold and musty, filled with rows of crates and boxes that stretch all the way to the ceiling.
I can hear footsteps echoing off the walls as Razi and his companions lead me deeper into the warehouse.
We walk for several minutes, passing by stacks of merchandise and machinery until we reach a large metal door at the far end of the building.
Razi stops in front of it, turning to face me with a serious expression on his face.
Erebus
"This is it," he says quietly, his voice barely audible over the sound of my own heartbeat.
"The meeting place."
I nod nervously, feeling a mix of fear and anticipation as I prepare to face whatever lies beyond that door.
I stare at the metal door, my heart pounding in my chest.
Suddenly, a soft meow breaks the silence.
A small black cat emerges from behind one of the crates, wearing what looks like a tiny fedora on its head.
Razi and his companions step back as the cat approaches me, its yellow eyes glowing in the dim light.
It circles my legs once, then darts off towards a rusty ladder in the corner of the room.
Erebus
The cat pauses at the base of the ladder, looking back at me expectantly.
"Follow it," Razi whispers quietly.
I grip the cold metal rungs of the ladder and begin to climb, hearing the others fall into line behind me.
The cat leads us up three stories through the warehouse, always staying just ahead of us as we make our way higher and higher into the darkness above.
I reach the top of the ladder, my arms aching from the climb.
The cat in the fedora sits on a metal platform about six feet away, looking out over a catwalk that stretches across the warehouse.
Rows of suspended metal platforms hang from the ceiling like giant swings, each one bobbing gently up and down as they sway in the breeze.
The cat meows once, then jumps onto the nearest platform, which hovers impossibly in mid-air.
I look back at Razi, who is whispering something to the others.
He glances at me and nods, gesturing towards the floating platform.
"Jump," he mouths silently.
I hesitate for a moment, gripping the railing of the catwalk tightly as I stare out at the platform below.
It bobs up and down gently, looking impossibly fragile as it sways in the darkness above. The cat meows again impatiently, as if urging me to hurry up.
I take three deep breaths and back up a few steps along the catwalk until I have enough room to run.
Erebus
Then I sprint forward, launching myself into the air as I leap towards the floating platform.
I land hard on its metal surface, feeling it dip slightly under my weight before stabilizing once again.
The cat looks at me calmly, as if to say "well done," before turning its attention back to whatever lies ahead.
I glance down through the gaps in the floor of the platform, seeing a warm glow of light coming from somewhere below.
"Do you see it?" Razi asks, his voice barely a whisper as he steps onto the platform beside me.
Erebus
I nod, my eyes fixed on the glow beneath us.
"It's the heart of the operation," he continues, his tone a mix of awe and trepidation.
I watch as the cat leaps gracefully across the gap to another floating platform about six feet away.
The metal beneath my feet continues swaying gently, making my stomach lurch.
I grip one of the cables holding us aloft for balance, studying the surface of the next platform.
It's covered in a faintly glowing blue material unlike anything I've ever seen before.
The cat sits patiently, tail swishing lazily back and forth, yellow eyes fixed on me.
Behind me, I hear Razi whisper something to the others, and then he steps up beside me once again.
"It's your turn," he says softly, his voice filled with encouragement.
Drawing a deep breath, I bend my knees and push off hard, arms outstretched as I launch myself into empty space above the warehouse floor.
I land with a thud, the blue material beneath me rippling like water.
"Careful," Razi warns, his eyes wide with concern.
Erebus
"This isn't just any platform—it's alive."
