I'm drunk.
Not an unfamiliar state for me, but I've been holding off on it for a while now.
Lately I've been trying to keep my drinking to a minimum, at least in excess.
It's not hard to do so when I'm alone.
A bottle of scotch and some solitude is all I need to pass the time.
Tonight though, I find myself surrounded by the sounds of a party.
Laughter, music, people talking over one another; all of it muffled through the wall that separates me from the chaos.
I'm not part of the party, at least I don't think so.
I haven't heard any children's laughter.
That would be impossible to ignore.
I'm hiding in my room like the coward I am, nursing a glass of scotch and trying not to think.
