I was forty years old the day I died.
It was also the day I remembered I was an angel.
Looking back, I can see that my life was always different.
I never quite fit in with the rest of my family.
My mother used to tell me that I was born with my feet already on the path.
I didn't understand what she meant until much later.
When I was a child, I used to have conversations with what I thought was my imaginary friend.
Now, I realize that I was talking to another angel who had been sent to watch over me.
As I grew older, the conversations stopped and I forgot about them.
Until the day I died.
Standing in the church, having just been baptized by immersion, I felt the weight of forty years of sin wash off of me.
It was amazing and freeing.
At the same time, it was almost as if my sin was a physical thing that had been washed out of me.
As it left my body, I felt myself begin to fall towards the water below.
I tried to fight it but it was too late.
