I had been surfing the internet for a good two hours when I stumbled upon the forum.
I’d never been one for forums or chatrooms.
Hell, I couldn’t even tell you why I’d clicked on that link.
But as I scrolled through the various topics, one thread in particular caught my attention:
“Surgery to Give You Superpowers”
The thread was filled with people calling bullshit, but the idea was intriguing.
A cosmetic surgery clinic that could give you superpowers?
I couldn’t help but get my hopes up.
I mean, it was most likely a scam, but what if it wasn’t?
The clinic was based in the city, so at least it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to visit.
And if it was a scam, I had nothing to lose.
Curiosity got the better of me.
I clicked on the link and it took me to the clinic’s homepage.
It was surprisingly professional.
There was a list of the different powers they could give you, and they all sounded amazing.
The website contained glowing reviews from past patients talking about how their new superpowers had changed their lives.
There were even images of the studies they’d used to back up their claims.
How could this be real?
It felt like something out of a science fiction movie, not something that existed in real life.
But what if it was real?
What if this was my chance to change my life?
To stop being that lonely boy who sat at the back of every class and never said a word?
To be someone special?
The thought sent a shiver down my spine.
My life was boring.
It had always been boring.
And I hated it.
What if this really could change everything?
Aside from the ridiculousness of the idea itself, the thing that gave me pause were the prices.
It was expensive, and I didn’t have that kind of money.
Even with my savings from my part-time job, I’d barely have enough for the deposit.
But maybe that would be enough to get things started.
To hold them off so that I could find a way to earn more money.
My eyes flicked back to the forum post and I scrolled through the comments.
Most people were calling bullshit on the whole thing, but there were a few who supported it.
They said that there were countless reports on the news and in the papers.
I’d never heard of such a thing, but there were plenty of things in the world that I didn’t know about.
And there were others who said that if you visited the clinic they’d prove it to you by showing you the powers in action.
Some people had claimed to have seen them before.
I clicked on the link that someone had shared and it took me to another forum.
This one contained dozens of threads and comments, all talking about the clinic and the powers they offered.
My heart raced as I read through them all, my skin prickled with excitement.
It couldn’t be real, could it?
I mean… it just wasn’t possible?
And yet… what if it was?
I sat there for what felt like hours after I’d turned off my computer just staring at the blank screen.
